It was me, I HAD one on order, but when the pricing came through mine was £37k+!!! Which is just ridiculous - I ordered it 3 years ago as well and had the first car coming into the UK - obviously I cancelled it, should be a nice car but not £37k good!!!! After my RS I purchased an ED30 DSG, which is currently running 305BHP, and Im quite happy with it, so versatile, and bloody fast to boot, on the roll is quicker than my RS!

Gonna hang out and go for a porsche next year

Was sat in a que of cars a few weeks back in aberdeen when a white one went steaming the other way. Totally agree it sounded awesome. The focus would be 40k too if they spent more than the £2.99 they've used for the interior! Have you seen one inside? The dash in particular is horridly cheap and nasty looking. It would 100% drive me mad within a week moving in there after an Audi. Jerry's got it sussed for interior and overall build quality. Date quickly perhaps (esp the green)?

Hiya Oli, It was yourself was it? By coincidence I had a shufty round an ED30 yesterday. It's a wee bit of a plan that's forming, (again by coincidence!) for a 911. Run around in a Golf for a year to save up some pennies for a good deposit. You reckon the Golf's pretty quick then? 305 is by way of a remap? or is there other fettling required?

Haha the Ed30 weighs in at under 1400 kgs, and with 305BHP and DSG, makes a pretty impressive motor. Mine has a full Milltek TBE, Stage 2 remap, DSG torque de-limit, eibach springs, S3 brakes front and rear(standard are utter <beep>) and cold air intake and panel filter. Performance wise on a dry road is just over 5 secs to 60, and just between 10 to 11 to 100, so RS4 quick, but needs to be dry, oh and doesn't make the noises. Very chuckable, and easier to get to the limits, which I never seemed to find with the RS, which is scarey!

Wifey not working anymore, due to kids and a big extension has sucked me dry of funding for cars, but will be back in something exotic by the end of the year - ie Porsche!

Had a feeling it'd be a wee bit more complicated than a simple remap! :biggrin3:

That has to be the cleanest mk5 golf I've ever seen!

What porsche are you liking? Regs not reaching RS4 limits - you obviously weren't trying hard enough!!

I have a remapped vag 2.0t running 315bhp and in independent testing on private roads ...cough... although the turbo torque does make it feel faster in gear than the RS4.... IF you are in the right gear.... It isn't

I had an R32 before the RS4 and that was a great car. the new Golf R is very expensive and does look bland but got a favourable review in Evo last month. In the end I think its too expensive for what it is.

Focus RS does have presence but in all the tests I've seen it seem a bit slow for what it is, the mountune ST is quicker! Would be interesting to put the golf R up against the Focus RS, am sure EVO will do it sometime.

I paid £20K this time last year for a fully specced R32. The new R looks nice but £30-35K is alot. People will pay it as it's the new best thing.....

You cannot compare to a (cough!) circa. 400bhp V8 as a proposition. I don't think

Drove my Wife's Mk5 GTi yesterday.....nice but tons of wheel spin and the engine is soo quiet.

I was thinking of changing until I specced one up - five doors, parking sensors, DSG, leather seats, decent sat nav, ACC came to over £37K before the increase in VAT. No thanks.

Looking at the Leon Cupra R with same engine as Golf, just not 4wd, but fully loaded with sat nav, stitched padded leather, sensors fr&rear, BT, AFL...change out of 25k

The price difference between a GTi and R does seem like a lot... Until you consider the price difference between an S4 and RS4.

I was the other fella who's on the list for a golf R
I unlike Oli have continued my order and should have it by March 1st
it has had great reviews by Evo, CAR and auto express who just this week compared it to the focus RS-
the golf won in that review they describe it as an all weather supercar. I didn't even consider the focus RS looks a bit boy racer for my taste, I prefer the R's subtelty.

Smooth punchy engine, 4wd chassis, superb cabin and elegant looks..... Sound familiar? Like a junior RS4?.... I'll let you know how it compares to my sorely missed RS4 avant soon.

Fair play fella  I really like the understated look of it (totally agree with your focus comments). Not sure what the colour is called, but the one I tried to get a test of is dark bluey/grey. Really smart and it's really nice inside too. If it's as good as they say (and in the absence of a test drive) I'm sure it'll be a cracker.

Mines 5dr ( baby on the way), rising blue, manual ( not automatic- I want to drive it) sat nav, Adaptive chassis, phone prep, cruise control, parking sensors and a few other bits a pieces.....
Costs a couple of quid but it's exclusivity should hold residuals but if it doesn't I'm keeping it 3yrs anyway so I'm not too worried ..
