kay wrote:Thanks for that sonny. So there are only two parts to original exhaust....(i) down pipe with precats and main 400 cell cats followed by a (ii) backbox. Interesting. So, miltek options would include replacing the backbox with a resonated/non resonated valved/non valved backbox ; also replacing the d/p with the pre cats and main cats with a free flowing d/p (without precats) with option of a 100 cell or 200 cell main cat. Somebody please confirm my understanding.
Milltek downpipe would include the cats, followed by a small link pipe, then either res / non res pipe, followed by back section.
So if I'm right (and replacing all pipework except manifold) - the original two piece (each side) is replaced in total by four sections of milltek (each side)??

Hope this helps. If I'm wrong, someone will be sure to correct me.

First pic. OEM cat back in middle with Res and a non-res sytem either side.

Second pic: Miltek cat back system (6 pieces, inlcuding bracket).

Last pic, Miltek Cat and Dowpipe, one piece.

Hi Chaps,
Well, lots of interest. I need to crawl under the car with a torch and see which version is on the car and report back on here. It is generally which loud under 2,000rpm and sounds lovely through the revs. I will probably still look to change it for an OEM but out of interest, what is the difference in idle/low rev sound on the res or non-res versions?

Cheers
Jason

The res at low revs is slightly louder than OEM on sport mode. The non res is just plain LOUDER everywhere.

Bakes - if you start your car, wind the window down and listen. Then press the sport button on steering wheel (wjile engine is on idle) - if the sound deepens then it'll be a valved system. If the sound doesn't change, then it'll be a non-valved system. Sve you lurking around underneath.

Only way to tell if its res or non res is to look underneath.

Hope this helps.

you should be able to see it just fro the rear, there easy to spot the valves.

Thanks for all the advice guys. just looked at it and it is a Non Valve, Non Res chrome tip version from the cat back. I've just changed from a 997 C2S and it's taken some getting used to an estate car but I took it on a long journey today in the rain and sleet and love it! Sounds awesome, very quick and a lot of fun. Still too loud sadly so it's either try the resonated pipes or go the OEM route. Depending on how much people want for the non-res pipes it will probably be the OEM. I will update everyone soon and get back to everyone who emailed!
Cheers

PG, What was the uprated part on the exhaust for the cab as I was told that they are all compatible now.
I don't believe it was an uprated part, just a different layout.

I would get the res pipes mate tbh (not biased at all given I have some for sale)

i have the valved NON RES, and tbh, I couldnt drive with the S button on, which is the equivalent of what you've got all the time, unless I knew I was on a good piece of road....the drone is too bad

but with the valves shut, its perfect, loud but not too so

and I think with the resonated pipes it will be just perfect....louder than OEM which is a tad to quiet, but it'll be quieter than the Non Res which is LOUD

I have the non-valved resonated Miltek ...

Hello from the other side of the pond. I don't know anybody who would say the resonated exhaust is loud (even on cold starts). I've had a few Audis with aftermarket exhausts in the past that were a bit loud or droned but just not the case with this setup. I bought the car used and frankly, had no idea it had an aftermarket exhaust at the time. After being unable to hear any sound difference with or without Sport mode, I posted up a pic and asked what could be wrong ... DUH ! I was informed of my luck that I had a valvless MIltek. Perfect strangers compliment the sound of my car on a weekly basis - my S4 sounded good but never caused so many people (including a few ladies) to comment on how awesome the car sounds.

Unless the OP wants a very quiet tone, I'd suggest slapping on resonators and calling it a day.

A word of caution to anyone with non-valved systems (or modded OEM's) - make sure the vac lines are plugged properly as the last thing you'd want is to suck up debris into the engine.
