Took out another years warranty

Post by ^Qwerty^ » Tue Jan 05, 2010 5:42 pm

Had my car booked in at York Audi today for it's MOT. Whilst there I also asked them to look at the knocking front end and the clutch pedal that sometimes doesn't return.

Anyway, MOT no problem, and I have to take it back next week and leave it with them for two days to have the shocks replaced and some parts of the clutch. (not just a pipe).

Whilst sat in the waiting area, which due to the weather and roads around York, was the best place to be, rather than have them run me back to the office, I decided to take out another years warranty. Expensive I know, but the clutch work described above could take me well towards the total I've paid for it anyway.

Peace of mind really.

for peace of mind, its worth it

its an insurance at the end of the day, and the best one available for a performance car.

theres a chance it will cost you more than the work needed, but theres a chance it wont and you'll be glad you did it

but for 1 yr you can drive your car like you stole it and it is goes pop, your wallet shalt not worry

also adds resale value / attractiveness

I don't think it is expensive when you take things into account like labour and parts. How many people on this forum would be willing to do a warranty for that amount a couple of minor faults soon add up to a lot of money. I do R&M on my trucks so I Know What the trucks will cost me in a Year. Have done the same on my car.

what does the extended warranty cover exactly (or more to the point not cover compared to the 3yr warranty)??? am seriously thinking if I should risk my second yr with the car without warranty (got 6 months to decide)

Just make sure it covers any dynamic ride control / suspension issues because I have less than 15k miles on mine and the entire DRC needs to be replaced!

Nope - all dealers will charge the same - standard Audi pricing. 1.2K at last count but did here it was going up in 2010 - still waiting to here back from my local dealer on exact costs (and whether the recharging of the DRC will be a warranty item)

its identical to 3 Yr warranty. Only after its 5 yrs old will it go to "named component" and to boot will cost more (£1,732)

I asked about what it covered today and I was told the only difference is that wiring is not included, other than that, its exactly the same. Thought about it for a minute, but when (on an Audi and not on an Alfa or a Renault) did the wiring last fail?

Got the oil and filter changed as well, although ye'old computer still said (the thing has been reset.....) has 10k to go.

I'm in the extended warranty and they charged the DRC to the extra cover. Worth finding out exactly what it does cover though, I know from my last visit it doesn't cover a broken centre arm rest

Neither does the standard warranty, as I found out to my cost. Got it sorted in the end as it was damaged by the dealer in the first place, but from a warranty perspective the armrest is wear & tear, not a malfunction
