I was pretty chuffed that i managed to get my time down to a respectable 1.28.8 with a 14 stone passenger in the car. (not that vid)
Unfortunately In that vid my sunglasses were rolling around under my feet as I did'nt stowe them away properly! School boy error.
Oh !AJ-T wrote:Its a Focus RS.

I thought it was going to be something more exciting! Ah well he drives well and Im glad Im not blinded by the colour! There is no way on the planet that two similair level of drivers that would catch an Atom No way, neicts, nein nect no nil nope not a chance. Look I'm sure the car is fun and so are track days most of us fellow 4 owners have done them will no doubt be more rapid than a Dagenham dustbin. If your into fast funny coloured cars that fall part and are driven by people in burberry pants thats cool!
FF is fast forward it was going on a bit as I am now !
Any one got a vid of a RS4 skinning a Porsche or a M3 or something ??[/quote]
Your quite rude aren't you?
Do you get blinded by Blue!? The FRS Mk1 only comes in Blue.
Or is it because its ford blue that you are blinded?
Audi Blue is ok I take it?
Its never fallen apart or broken down I do 4-5 trackdays a year - we've already extinguished this conversation earlier on in the thread, if you had bothered to read it all.
As for Burberry pants, what a narrow minded comment.
Most RS's are owned by older guy's who use them as second or third cars and spend most of their lives in garages.
There about 1800 Mk1 FRS in the Uk, so pretty rare. Theres more Aston Martin DB9's on the road!
I've yet to come up against a RS4 on track, but Im sure it won't be long.
Ill be sure to post the video up on here - just for your benefit alone!
Would be terrible to be overtaken by a Ford ehh, I've got nothing to loose as Im at the bottom of the car food chain according to your snobbish comments.

i have not been in the new rs jocus but i think it looks tidy.. the ford rs brand has good racing heritage and personally i dont think you should mock it unless you have tried it..a couple of people i know have got one so i must go out with one of them to see what they are like on the road.

I actually traded in an RS4 Avant against a Focus RS.
Mile-for-mile the Focus has been more reliable and better put together. It has more toys, and is just as pratical.
It is also faster over the same road as the RS4 due to its lower weight and more adjustable chassis. Even in the wet it finds more grip into a bend, understeers less, carries more speed through and pulls almost as cleanly out of the a bend. In the dry it pulls just as cleanly out of a bend. It is certainly a handful when the turbo first comes on boost, and can torque-steer, but has zero tramlining compared to the very wandry nose of the RS4. The Focus is certainly a lot more fun on a coutry lane than an RS4 in pretty much every way. Yet it is still faithul and safe enough for even the most inexperienced driver to take by the scruff of the neck.
As for reliability, as mentioned above, it has been faultless. In 4700 miles it hasn't used one notch of oil off the dipstick. The only fluids it has needed has been the windscreen wiper fluid in this crap weather. It hasn't been back to a dealer. It hasn't had an engine light come on, it hasn't had a sticky clutch, it hasn't had knocky shocks, it hasn't needed any secondary vacuum solenoids.
The seats are more comfortable for both quick A-B driving and long distance.
For the family (this replaced the RS4 as our family car) it has more room in the rear for the children, even though there are no rear doors. The boot, although not as long, is much deeper and just as usable day-to-day. It is also more efficient on a long run.
However, it is far from perfect.
The interior plastics are not a patch on the Audi. The touch-screen satnav is not as intuative and is difficult to read. Touch-screen is crap in a car with a ride this firm. You keep hitting the wrong part of the screen!
The Ride. It is very fidgity. I was warned of this and the people that warned me were right. It is fine if you are on your own but with the family it becomes obvious how hard it is as you see them bouncing around in their seat. It is not crashy, but the damping is over-firm and the spring rate is probably a little too high. Although it does the family thing very well (after all it is basically the best selling family car in the country) it is not a restfull, long distance family car.
The attention. The Focus, by far, draws more attention than any other car we have ever owned. I don't live in chav country. Far from it. But this car draws more looks, more spectators, more attention, more questions, more interest than any other car I have ever owned.
If the Focus was just for me, it would be fine. If you can see past the plastics, and the ride doesn't bother you, it is a very fast, very fun car. Just as fast, and much more fun than an RS4.
But, as a family car, it just doesn't work so well, unless all you need to do with the family is take them to Tescos and back. If you need to cover any kind of distance on a regular basis with the wife and kid, look elsewhere.
And for that reason the Focus is going to be leaving us in the new year. An order has been placed on a C63 Estate. Hopefully the best of both worlds.......

Jackwood, I've had a bit of rant about the FRS on the other forum. I now feel embarrassed for I know nothing about the FRS than what I've read on Ford's website! I'm to keep my mouth shut in future.
That's the first coherent analysis from someone who has experience of both cars I've read anywhere. Comparing the RS4 with the FRS probably isn't a proper comparison. I wouldn't expect the Focus to have the same finish as a flagship Audi. I had similar thoughts based on the Astra VXR we have. Throwing the VXR around country roads is probably easier than driving the same roads in the RS4. It's great fun. But I know what the Astra is at the end of the day, and it's when you start wanting to do more 'family' stuff and longer trips that the RS4 has no equal in my experience. My girlfriend regularly falls asleep in the RS4 when we're cruising on motorways. That definitely doesn't happen in the Astra because the ride quality simply isn't there and there are too many rattles etc from the plastic trim even though it's only 18 months old.
I'm glad you've enjoyed the time in the FRS. But the C63, you will find and probably already know, is a totally different animal again and you'll love it for what you want it for. Enjoy and thanks for the write-up above.

Jackwood comments the FRS is faster from A to B than a RS4.
Yet, using the Top Gear track, for arguments sake, the RS4 is ~4 secs faster.
Around the Autocar Wet Handling circuit the FRS is significantly slower than both the RS4 and the Focus ST.
http://www.fastestlaps.com/index.php?pa ... e32318475a
I think if you try and drive a 4WD car like you drive a FWD car, performance will not be optimal.
Personally, I respect the rally car heritage of the FRS but I just can't understand why they didn't carry the 4WD system over to the road car...

Quite sad really. Just because I haven't owned an RS4 for 2 months shouldn't proclude me from being an active member here. In the 2 years of ownership of an RS4 I built up a considerable database of useful information and contacts that would be benficial to any current RS4 owner.
I'm sure in a test drivers hands the RS4 is going to be the faster car in most situations. On paper it should decimate the Focus. But there are always little subjective feelings you get as an owner-driver that would tell you otherwise. Plus you have to accept other sides of the story such as the Focus being quicker around Fords development track than their own GT.
As has been said many times, they are 2 different cars. If you are used to an RS4, stepping into a Focus is going to be a bit of a culture shock. But that does not mean the Focus is a bad car. If you like fast fun cars and don't mind a choppy ride, then the Focus is the car to get. If you like fast safe and comfortable cars that are £25,000 more expensive and have higher quality plastics, then you want the RS4. It's not difficult.
