I owned a green rs before getting the rs4 and both are good cars but I do prefer the rs4, more class and beautifully made, the ford feels cheap and slung together but is good fun and the brakes felt amazing on the ford actually felt better than the rs4.

I'm sorry but I am struggling to see why any one would even consider the possibilities of comparing these two cars. They are completely different and I have to say in a different league. Totally. I have a Ford. Its an S max. Its a complete pile of <beep> but great for cramming the kids in and all their crap to go on holiday and school runs. I kick the bloody thing every time I get near it!! If I tune it up whack a F8ck off spoiler on, paint it green and add a "big boy" exhaust am I know good to go against a RS 4?? Please !! :bash: but I do get better MPG!!..... :)
I know the chap who originally posted said he just had a quick run out in one, fair point made there always good to know whats out there. But why is it of interest on a RS 4 forum??? I could understand if it was a Merc, Beamer or Porsche. Call me a snob if you like but this is a 50 - 60k exclusivily built specialist performance car with an element of practacality built in.
If you are in the market for such a car and are comparing a Ford RS green slime racey thing against a RS4 or just want to argue against the pros and cons then I am not sure you know what your looking for and need to start again! Sorry if this upsets anyone I had a Cosworth when they were trendy in the early 90's and have to say it was great fun then but I certainly would never see the current RS cars being even in the same league as a 4 regardless of how fast, garish or how many spoilers they have! There is just no argument to have here.... The 4 is some 3 years out of manufacture and all the hot hatches, evo 19's or what ever and other boy racer models still want to compare against it!! Tells you something about the car doesnt it? Give it a year and the current "Fast Ford" will disappear and ours will still being going strong and remain exclusive! Look at the B5's and RS2's. People come on hear to make their opinion heard on subject matter surrounding the RS4. I am struggling to understand why Mr Plodwyn bothers to still come here and post if he thinks we are all arseholes. I am sure the chavs on the Ford forums will talk to you nicely. Jog on bud!

to add more controversy, why have both an RS and an RS4? completely different leagues in terms of cost, quality, exclusivity, desirability etc. etc. but performance on twisties not much in it... the performance differential will only start to show properly at naughty speeds...

Personally i'd have an RS4 every day of the week. (Still saving!)

The fact that the Ford is mentioned in the RS4 forum is ok, and I can't see what everyone is getting worked up over. After all, 911s and the likes have been compared to RS4s and they cost a lot more.
Over the same country road, there aint going to be much in it (unless its raining!!!).
Example - my mate reckons his girlfriends R32 golf is quicker from A to B than his C2 Porsche. The road is bumpy and twisted and the porsche just doesn't inspire confidence. Maybe another driver will find the complete opposite. At the end of the day - buy what you like but terms like "assholes" and "dickheads" aint real helpful. Surely the point of contributing to a forum is to gain feedback - not slagging each other off.

And the green that ford used....YUK.

When i posted i wasn't comparing it with the RS4 in any shape or form, it was only my "first impressions" of the Focus after i'd had a very short blast in it

All of us obviously like performance cars and i don't think it fair to discount it just because it's a Ford. It isn't the car for me, but that's not the point

I hear all your comments like charva's car, Ford interior, etc. but have you actually sat inside and driven one ??

I think for 25K it's one hell of a car yes, it looks OTT in green, but if you remember Ford said it would only produce it in that colour if enough people ordered it in that

colour so they obviously did !

I would be very interested in anyone else's views having driven the car
Mint Optic Pack saloon in Daytona Grey (Now sold)
B7 RS4 in Sprint Blue (Gone to a very good new home)
Evo V1 (wish i'd kept)
Numerous M3s

But what's an RS4, an A4 with wide wheel arches, 19" Alloys, Big Brakes, Big Engine and Sports Seats !!! so in effect a modified 20k car !!

Personally I think the Focus RS is a great car, who cares if its a Ford.

Unfortunately it comes with the build quality typical of a Ford too...

It's not really an assessment though is it. It'll keep it honest in the twisties; how?

Blingbling; what's up? Axe to grind? you seem to take great exception to my comments.

Blimey fella's there's some top level badgest talk going on tonight!

I can't believe how blinkered everyone is on here, I thought you all like performance cars as you all seem to drive them?

Now Im not going to try and make you change your mind, but maybe show you that people who drive a "lesser" car in your eyes are'nt all chavs with bling etc.

I own a Focus RS, its a nice car, granted the interior is not the greatest but it makes up in other area's. I've had it tuned and its pretty quick but still has'nt lost any of its cornering ability I also believe that the torque steer has diminished since tuning it.

Now I know its no RS4 but at the time it was the most I could afford on a car, your man at the top was praising the RS but straight away a bucket load of abuse was hurled each and everyway, have any of you driven one/sat in one?

It amazes me that the ford RS brand cause's such a fuss, there were people on Pistonheads a few months back threatening to do each other over because of comments that were written by certain ford and non ford owners! (and yes both sides were just as bad as each other)

Straight away the Ford RS gets the non RS followers backs up, almost as if people in much more expensive machinery deny that a less expensive car with - heaven forbid a Ford badge could possibly be as quick as their German Porsche, Audi, VW etc

I have experienced this myself many a time on track, especially Porsche owners (their a special bunch). Its almost like it does'nt compute in their brains that a Ford could possibly overtake them in there 80k machinery - so invariably I get stuck behind them until they are blue flagged or pull over!

I've also had people come over to me and ask how a Ford can be so quick and have I put another engine in or bought Porsche brakes etc - the best one was a BMW M5 owner who had never even heard of the RS brand! But he had heard of the E30 M3 which used to do battle with the RS500's and dare I say it loose quite badly!

I one day aspire to own a RS4, I think there great cars. That does'nt mean I'd sell my RS though, because there two very different cars but both equally as good at what they do.

One of my favourite cars is the Audi Quattro S1 but there's no chance of ever owning one of those!

So hopefully you may give the RS a second chance - Im down at Goodwood motor circuit in the summer months if you see me come over say hi - if I have a free space Ill even take you round in the dustbin show you what it was made for! My reg is LF53FNU my car is Blue, my names AJ.

Why is it not an assessment? He owns both cars. Therefore, he is in a far better position than you or anyone else to pass judgement on it abilites. Your had a play with one. That means nothing. You do not know the ability of the RS driver or whether or not he was giving it his all. Plodwyn owns boths and I am pretty sure he has driven both on the same road with the same gusto. Thus making his comment more relevant.

relevant?

specifically pointing out that he had been a member for a while but didnt post due there being a lot of arseholes on here ( or words to that effect) is hardly relevant now is it?

people are entitled to opinions, and he's aired his, and we've aired ours.

to then reiterate his discontent at having his precious focus maligned, he then calls a group of posters a 'bunch of dickheads'

top bloke then?

him and his focus will be very happy together.
