Adaptive headlights

Post by caldy » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:29 am

I posted back in May my drive over Hartside in the RS and last night I had the opportunity to re-live it, only this time in the dark. I had to meet a colleague in Tebay so it was an 85 mile run from Newcastle over the moors via Alston. Never really appreciated before just how good these lights were. On the twisties, they react instantly to give you an excellent view of the emerging bends and the full beam range is fantastic. Made the drive so much safer (read quicker). Only downside of the drive is that 179 miles after filling up, needs more fuel! Good job it's not a daily drive or I'd have to sell everything to keep it! So tonight it's out with the pressure washer again.....can't believe there are that many bugs flying around.

Absolutely agree, I also had a fast late night drive home last night on A and B roads in Devon and Somerset, plus some narrow lanes at the end, that little extra bit of light into the bends is really handy! Ditto the bugs too - looks a mess this morning!!

Agree with the bit about through the twisties. The change in direction of the lamps really helps.

I'd argue that they really don't seem to be quite as bright as standard lamps though and if you're hoovering on at really high speeds in the dark on fast roads then the full beam just doesn't go as far or illuminate as wide a field of vision.

They're pretty trick though (especially when the light moves on starting the car!) and I like the colour of the light so would order them again given the choice.
