A1 service from Audi
Not a lot of miles really - mines at 30K now.
Agree what you are saying - maybe people do get used to the drop of in power (over the months).
Mines still whacks the traction control light on when changing hard up into second in the dry so hopefully still putting out the ponies!!! Need to get like for like though....not many RS4s hitting about my area though.

Ok, so just been to viw my RS4 (circ 27k miles), with the new engine semi installed.
The inlet manifold and old engine looked remarkably good. No furry carbon buildup ala Pippyrips, and no oil streams running out either.
All that could be observed on the inlet manifold as well as the valves was a light dusting of soot, very fine, and very smooth, with no measurable depth to it.
Clutch replaced, but the 'old' unit showed only approx 15% wear.

IIRC mine is in 0090 which was done last year but I'll have to check.Gazzer68 wrote:Nothing, but i had an interesting conversation with the master tech.P_G wrote:Well done Gazzer, glad it all got sorted for you in the end. What have Audi UK CS had to say about the carbon build up?
Yours RR'd recently with a good figure, what ver S/W are you on, and when was it upgraded?
My 396 bhp was done with seized actuator valves as well, I swear the car is now more responsive now they have been replaced under warranty than what it was previously which may be as a result of the vacuum system being impaired by seized valves; may go back and have it dyno'ed again to see if there is any difference. Had the the air box power flap test done by Audi as well after the new actuators were fitted and no issues plus my 5500rpm kick in the back has returned.
That's excellent!Well done Gazzer
So for all the RR cynics, that a problem identified (and fixed) for all cars running down on power that day - possible exception being Mac, but hopefully he's being sorted too...
Some good came out of the RR day then.
Audi have responded in a way a reputable company should.
Maybe they even need forums like this to highlight potential problems. Mind you, I see this as an opportunity - by working together we can help each other with issues and potential issues, which in turn enhances the Audi brand.
My motor is booked into Audi later this month.

Wow what can you say! Well done Gareth and Big Well Done to Audi
They will love you for posting that and setting a standard!!
Really pleased for you mate as I know you were gutted back in April. If you want to put a few miles on the clock I can always arrange for us to meet up at paramount and we can chuck her on and see what she's doing now?

Vindication for the sensible use of RR's perhaps inspite of the vociferous objections?
But what we really want to know is why Audi have replaced the engine?
If it is not the carbon build-up and there were no other obvious faults, what do they know that we don't?

Something was said about 'marks' in the bores, I would imagine that was the main reason.SR71 wrote:Vindication for the sensible use of RR's perhaps inspite of the vociferous objections?

Well done Gazzer, great news indeed, my car is running better then ever, except for brakes, the DRC's having to be replaced again last week and a slight squeak if i turn my music off...

Also in the process of having the engine replaced. In my case just a "short" engine. They have cleaned the heads by hand.
This replacement was on the back of:
a) me asking about coking of the valves and requesting an inspection whilst the manifolds were off to have some vacuum solenoids fixed
b) running an oil consumption test followed by
c) oil cooler return pipe failure (the day after part 2 of the oil consuption test, but not connected, of course!!) resulting in all the oil falling out the bottom of the car and leaving me stranded at work
c) inspection with an endoscope and witnessing scoring in the cylinder bores.
Short engine replaced, manifolds cleaned and polished, new clutch system and LHD upgraded clutch pipe fitted.
Car should be back this week.
Not been rushing them. Car has been there 4 weeks. But having an RS6 as a loaner has made that bearable
