Gruppe M Air intake - Worthwhile ?

Post by 12se7en » Mon Jul 13, 2009 12:32 pm

For those who had it. is it worth while getting them ? Does it really improve the performance of the car ?

Btw latest quote i got from www.evo-s.co.uk is £1131 (includes VAT)

Cheers.

Yes I would say it is, but not at that price, try fleabay, it can be had for around £850 depending on EX rate for the Yen.

Personally I think it is a waste of money at any price. You can find a thread about it over on Audiworld but to put it simply:
1) 1 path for air intake vs 3 from the stock airbox
2) The surface area of the cone filter is much smaller than the stock filter
3) CEL lights for most owners with the code being too rich (makes sense as it cannot supply enough airflow at high rpm)
4) $1400-1600 USD to make your car slower

Only difference I have found is improved induction noise - very throaty - but no significant change in performance

the conclusion i can gather from here is .. its not one of those ''must have mod'' for the RS4 unlike remap, exhaust system, KW and etc...

if the have extra $$$ .. i guess its ok. if not, the car is still great to drive 8)

when I had the GruppeM in my car (along with a remap and Milltek exhaust) I noticed a huge difference, there was more a neck snapping acceleration at mid range, I noticed it more when I put it back to Standard (due to me at the time selling the car), the car felt dead afterwards, and I do miss that "neck snapping" acceleration (OK I know its no turbo). but is it worth the money, if you can source one second hand at fraction of the price, I would say it is.
