Sounds as good as it looks

Post by sonny » Tue Jun 23, 2009 6:20 pm

I'm just so loving the sound of this RS4, and must admit im liking that front bumper too, love the air holes at the front, (Reminds me off the CSL M3 single vent). is it more or do those tailpipes look oem, just with a different rear valance on?

Yep, and so did Rob's

From the differences I heard on the day, I'd guess that a decat on standard exhaust is louder than a non-res with cats, but the only sensible choice is to have both

Personally I'm going to wait for the warranty to expire and first MOT (next spring) before removing the cats

Dom, for the sake of using 100 or 200 CPSI cats and saving the hassle of taking your decat pipes off and fitting cats every time for MOT, I don't think you'll lose much of the noise or power by going down that route instead of decats.

I'm afraid your wrong Graeme. My mate who is not a forum member has just gone from a non res valved milltek with the milltek 200 cell sports cats to the same set-up as me and boy is there a difference when you dump the cats!!:)

Mine doesn't sound too different to that in honesty I will try and do some video's next week when I get 5 minutes spare!!

That might be the sports version of the Tubi as it sounds similar to my standard version but a tiny bit louder and pipes look the same... and that's just the back boxes! Tubi now do a centre section as well now but was told that it wasn't really required.

You are comparing Milltek downpipes and cats though, there are other alternatives and the % power difference vs. having to faff on with decats every time it comes to MOT and worrying about emmissions.... well its for each individual to make the decision.

It didn't make a huge difference on the B6 S4 V8 and I would suggest the same will happen with the engine in the RS4.

with the power I agree there probably isn't too much difference as little as 1bhp but with regards to the noise of the thing gutting the cats completely does make the RS into a fire breathing monster for sure!! :)
