Newbie Looking for an 06/07 Plate RS4

Post by Combatchef » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:10 pm

Hi,
Looking to get myself a black RS4 in August. Most likely to be from an Audi dealership. Is there anything I should specifically look at that might be of concern apart from the obvious service history etc.

I've seen a couple of things about DRC problems. Can someone briefly explain it and what was done to rectify it.

I have come from owning a Ford track car. My mrs has a 56 plate Audi A4 Cabriolet S Line in Phantom Black. Driving that made me realise the build quality of the Audi's. Oh and the obvious fact that the M3 interior looks disgusting compared to the Audi's.

Really looking forward to hunting for one and finally getting behind the wheel.

Here's a few pics and a vid of my old escort. No mickey taking

Hope the RS4 lives up to it's name with comfort thrown in too

Nice track car there bud, ad some great action shots too, good luck in the search, the RS4 is a great car, however if the turbo is your thing, would you consider a B5 RS4? These cars a very highly tunable.

do some searches on here and you will find lots of results, the question has been ask numerous times over the past few weeks ;)

welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the info Sonny.

I broke the track car into bits as it was a money pit. I put the money with what I had saved and bought a brand new house to rent out.

The turbo thing is a rush; but I'm after a luxurious fast car that has a presence but not the bright yellow look at me presence. Tuning costs alot of money! With a B7 RS4 I won't have to do that.

There's some great info on the threads on here. Really good reads.

Looks like yours is pretty well modded.

Your welcome, what power was you running on your escort, looks a bit of a beast.

The RS4 B7 defiantly ticks the box then, understated looks, Iv had my car now for a year and a half, and loving every minute of it, it too is a money pit, depending on what you want to do to it (mod wise).

I would not be to put off by the DRC problem, Audi have extended the warranty to 5 years, most on here and esp over on the early RS6 cars, have uprated the parts to aftermarket parts, Im having KWv3 fitted on mine soon. not all cars are effected (rolls eyes).

The rough spec of the escort was a 2.1 litre full zetec, baffled sump, low comp pistons, steel rods, fully ported & polished head, mild cams so not laggy, custom inlet & exhaust manifold, Escort Cossie management, large front cooler, anti lag, GT30 roller bearing turbo, water injection, coil packs, wasted spark etc. Running just over 350 bhp with torque to match.

Suspension wise - Coilovers all round, 6 point cage, front & rear strut braces, adjustable track control arms, adjustable front tension struts, adjustable top mounts, adjustable rear transverse bars, adjustable parallel bars and a corner weighting session.

I live in Germany and the car stayed in the UK. Never used it and it started twisting driveshafts. Got pissed off and wanted something I could use that was a bit more grown up.

RS4's look really good lowered a tiny bit with the KW kit.

OK sounds like a awesome spec, did you sell her? out of curiosity, are you in the Forces living in Germany? if so can you not get the discount/tax free import from Germany? (or has that all stopped).

I broke it all into bits and sold it all off. Worth so much more in bits with that spec.

I am in the Forces and living in Germany. I do still get the tax free cars.
Surely it only applies to brand new cars? I had wondered if there was any kind of discount I could get through an Audi dealer for living over here.

Anyone shed any light? Perhaps wishfull thinking

Not sure bud on the discount, and again not sure about it having to be brand new......however I do think this is likely.

So have you been looking at any cars, and have you ever been in a RS4 or test drove oe?

What Reg are you in, im ex forces, I was in the Light Div, Green Jackets (Black Mafia) ;)

I haven't looked at any cars yet. I'm waiting for my summer leave at the end of August. I had seen a car on Autotrader that I liked. It has everything that I could want. But I have noticed it has a MFSW instead of the RS4 one.

That looks like the only thing that's letting it down. I wonder how much they are to change over. Anyone know?

You'll love me. I'm a chef by trade. Just coming up to my 12 year point in a month. Been a Sergeant for the past 20 months. No I'm not fat like most other chefs. Lol

They let the side down. So were you in Ballykinler then?

Hell no I left in 2003! hmmm the Chef course is one of the hardest courses in the British Army....because no one passes it hahaha ;)

As for the MFSW to FBSW, it can be swapped over, the OEM costs around £250 (i think) however it will have to be wired in, the 'S' button will be relocated and any other BT modules you have, also the FBSW does not have the Speech button located on it, this can be modded to the car as a After market option only. If I Was you I would wait until the right car comes along, there are loads kicking around, esp on www.pistonheads.com. what you after, saloon, avant or cab?

I've done a few things to warrant passing mine

I'd like a black saloon with under 30k miles. Have to be the black interior too as the cream isn't to my taste. One without the mobile phone holder on the side of the centre console. I'd like to spend 30k on one. I've seen a few that I quite like.

Here's a couple.

This one below was my favourite. But it has the wrong steering wheel unfortunately. Looks really nice though. Obviously I'd have to see it in the flesh.

With that advice I'll definitely wait till the right car comes around. I won't be viewing any till the end of August unless I see something that warrants me flying back to England one weekend 8)

I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh as I have only seen an avant in the RS4. I've never been in one or driven one either.

The one in the first link looks good mate, good condition.

The first one, has a aftermarket exhaust on (Milltek are very good) it also has the black optic pack on (also note the black Milltek tips), also it has the black piano inserts not the CF ones....this also TBH is a good car too, maybe as part of the deal ask the providers to swap it for a FBST?
