Gearbox and Differential oil change?
Gearbox and Differential oil change?
Are they included in any of the services, I notice that there is no inventory in the service book for them, but surly they will need to have the oil changed at some point. Has any body changed there's?
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
This debate has been going on for some time within the BMW CC USA. The concensus seems to be that when manufacturers guarantee the units for life we should be happy with "lifetime fill". Until then, changing the gearbox & final drive/s fluids at around 50k/60k can do no harm and it's probably a wise precaution. That's assuming, of course, that they're able to be drained & refilled. BM's are. Don't know about Audi's................ Anybody looked?
There might be a level bung on the side of the gearbox that you could fill it through but i really would get some tech help to check first, overfilling could damage the gearbox, iremember one of my escort cossies had a slight leak and had a level bung on the side of it,But the correct level was 10mm (or something) below this and ford used an allen key as a dipper,a friendly tech might be able to help
I have done this now and it was very easy after all. There is a filling bung (10mm allen) on the side of the front diff/gearbox which is just next to the nearside driveshaft flange. The gearbox holds 3.5 ltrs as suggested by TPS who supplied the gear oil. The filling is quite simple, I got a piece of hose and ran it down behind the engine and into the filling hole. Then you just feed the oil in through the hose checking every so often. Coincidently 3.5 ltrs is up to the level of the filling hole on the gearbox. I hope this helps anyone who would like to know as I did.

RS4 box is HND i believe, so we are the 2mm below edge.
