That's the reason I like the RS4 - its performance is usable all the time, come sun, rain, snow, WHY. I don't want a car where I have to be an expert weather forecaster and clairvoyant as well

Yeah great post Darryl.

Will be good to see how you guys get on. To be fair in a straight line, in the dry the C63 must pull away a little

If it's raining I'm sure rAudiguy will enjoy seeing a C63 going side ways at 70mph in his rear view mirror

Look forward to your report on how things go and be careful guys.

I have to agree, the C63 sounds bloody marvellous.

At Goodwood last year there were a bunch of them and I was well impressed.

And the fact that you can "chip" the naturally aspirated bugger for another 80+hp just like that is astonishing...

I'll look forward to a few runs down the road - similar fashion to those when we had the RS4's out for a spin.

Having driven the AMG, I do think djcevo will have the edge, so I best be picking some bendy roads, and hoping for a spattering of rain!! Either way, it'll be great fun - and thats what its all about.

I dont need to be a clairvoyant, I live in Aberdeen, I know it WILL be raining and the C63 will be in a ditch.

It's a good looking thing though!

Well.............

We nipped out on some private road earlier this week. It was dry, and sunny - till it got dark.

And the verdict..........I need a new clutch, new disc and pads and djcevo has been home about half an hour!!!

We played for about 45 minutes, with the following results:

Straight Line:
C63 in Auto Sport - left me standing, literally! didnt matter if we did a standing start or rolling start from about 40mph.
C63 in Manual - still left me standing, but not quite as much. The standing start was actually quite close for the first half a dozen seconds :-)

Corners/Bends/Roundabouts:
More difficult to gauge differences as there wasnt lots of bends/roundabouts on our private road :-). whilst following the C63 (which seemed to be the norm for me) it had amazing grip and follow through in the bends, with minimal lean/imbalance.

We had to top playing as it was dark (thats my excuse). My clutch was red hot - literally - and I can still smell it now!!

We both managed approx 10.8 MPG, so fuel consumption was about the same, and we'd both started with approx half a tank of fuel. (This was purely coincidental, we are not quite that anal).

To add injury to insult, I'd not long had my car back from the stealers where it had been given a new lease of life. My car is currently stock.

Nice to see people using their cars as meant to be ....on private roads of course.

Good luck with the clutch.

Reading this with interest.... I'm currently in the market for an RS4 but if there is a 'massive' difference in a straight line between one and a c63 I might reconsider. I'm actually a little dissapointed as i was nearly sold on the idea until i read this. How many car lengths was it in a drag? I know speed isn't the be all and end all but would have thought the Rs4 would have put up a better fight as they are both very similar performers on paper?

I hazard a guess it would be somewhat different in the wet? Thats the quattro's joker card....

Also, I don't know about other owners, but I find the RS4 is hard to launch well...clever torque-limiting ECU aside, it just doesn't help that you only get partial throttle in 1,2,3 below ~5000rpm...

The thought does appeal to me though, especially if its just a simple tweak to get it to >520+hp...

If only they had made the C63 Touring when I was in the market for an RS4. Good write up reevesroadster. Still love my RS4

Well I wouldnt trade the RS4 for a C63 - having driven both and compared them together on the road.

Mine is an Avant, so arguably slightly slower than a saloon - but I did find a standing start harder due to the launch issue described above. It actually seems that the clutch hose issue is the problem with my clutch, and I didnt cook it after all.

To try and provide some comparable straight line performance, the C63 pulls away from the Audi like the Audi would pull from most other cars in this range. The rolling produced less of a difference, but the biggest difference in performance came when he C63 was in auto sport mode.

I have to add that I havent had mine on a rolling road so cant tell how many horses its producing, although it doesnt seem slow - and wasnt slow against djcevo's remapped RS4 saloon.

We may get a chance to compare them in the wet, but Im not praying for rain while we have this good weather. Wouldnt like to put a C63 touring round any corners in the wet!!
