De-Modification tomorrow

Post by sonny » Tue May 05, 2009 5:16 pm

I have made the decision to DE-mod my RS4, been thinking about it for some time, so I will be up APS tomorrow morning (Wed 6th), im going to have my Milltek replaced with my OEM exhaust and i'm also having the GruppeM replaced with the OEM air box, the APS remap will stay and possible having a high flow panel filter replaced, I am booked into SRR on the Thursday for a confirmatory power run (last run I made with those mods made 374bhp (car had been sitting for 3 months and had old fuel in it) so It would be interesting to see what she is putting out now after reading the RR results of the members on this forum, so watch this space.

Overall, I enjoyed the mods, car sounds great, I really wanted to keep the GruppeM as this feature just complimented the engine bay.

The Milltek I did not get on with, and prefared the OEM, I have sold that and the buyer was interested in the GruppeM too, so just sold that too! Iv also been thinking of selling too to funds for a RS2, however im in 2 minds at the moment!

Did you feel any improvment performance wise when you first installed the GruppeM ? We all know our cars are low on power because there is not enough air being pushed in and out of the engine, so maybe that GruppeM did the trick, at least for the air going in part..

The rumours are that the RS5 has 30bhp more from better airflow into the engine from twin throttle bodies and possibly a third air intake, plus a less restricted exhaust.

I for one think it's a real shame that you're getting rid of the Miltek and GruppeM!

I've read that and it makes sense, since the R8 with twin throttle bodies usually makes the quoted power - 414 hp. Unfortunatelly, I think we don't have enough space in order to addapt something RS5 like when it comes on the market

Ditto, nevere heard of an R8 making the quoted power either, they are just as bad if not worse. And the one that was gunning it on the A19 last night wasn't getting away from me either and I only supposedly have 360bhp!

It depends very much on mileage, fuel and a lot of other factors, but I 've seen a few dynos from R8's with 404-414 hp in stock form.

The 4.2 FSI Q7 runs twin throttle bodies too doesn't it - although it doesn't rev out to 8250 does it?

Someone should hook up VAGCOM to either this or the R8 and check the mass flow.

It'd be interesting to see the difference both low down and high up...

The intake on the RS4 is one of the biggest on the market I think, with 90 mm diameter
But the R8 has 2X 70 mm intakes, so there is a lot more air being fed into that engine.

The Q7 engine is the low rpm version of the FSI 4.2, same as the S5 IIRC. It wouldn't be a valid comparison with the RS4/R8 engine.

No, not exactly, but nevertheless, if the Q7 flows 160g/sec at 6000 rpm whereas we know the RS4 only flows 160g/sec at 7800 rpm, we can quantify what effect the extra cross-sectional area is having can't we...

The same applies further down the rpm range.

Well Gents, tis a very sad day indeed, I had my exhaust and GruppeM removed, and all I an say is WHAT A DIFFERANCE! I must of took it for granted, I have noticed huge difference in drivability, no more neck breaking acceleration any more, I do miss the GruppeM, it was this filter that made the difference in my opinion.

Any way, Tomorrow morning i will be picking up my BMC panel filter and then will be off to Surrey Rolling road to see what the out come is with stock Exhaust, Intake and a APS remap, I made 374bhp on the last run, so all in good time.

Any way Thanks to Ed the crew at APS for a splendid job and for keeping my OEM exhaust in storage for me ;)
