I sold my rs4 a year ago and am struggling to replace it. There is quite simply not another car that is a complete all rounder than rs4. With regard to lap times what. I can't see many taking one on a track.

I'd have to admit the the RS4 doesn't shine in one department, but is one fine all-rounder, and make no excuse for it
Its the flagship A4 and and with that demands major VAG kudos points in the same way as the UR Quattro. Its the first Audi in years that has really surprised the motoring world. Its a genuine VAG thoroughbred and WILL be admired and desired for years to come (unless they totally ban the IC engine!). I personally dont care about the You-Tube v's culture although I love to see FireBlade engined Bubble cars thrash supercars! when I drive it's just me and the whatever stretch of road I'm on. The RS4 feels special, looks special and I love it!

However, I've found that the RS4 has the ability to make me look at more expensive cars very differently, I now no longer desire the Gallardo or GT3 as I cannot justify such and expense for very little "real-world" performance gains IMO. When you can keep up with such exotica why bother "upgrading"??? You can quote bhp/tonne, but unless these cars come with an optional ACME rocket I'll not be signing up just yet.

My RS4 ticks all my boxes therefore in my eyes it is my ultimate purchase. Facts and figures cannot communicate the excitement I feel each morning or when I walk into Tesco and turn round at the last minute to catch a sneaky peak. :D

I have many cars left on my "Cars to drive before I die" list (e30 M3, Lancia Denta EvoII, 190 Evo II, Lotus Carlton, Escort Cosworth, RS500) but for now I am more than happy with the RS4 :D

I'm lucky enough to have driven the last 3 of those while I was working at Lotus, but while they were really fast they lack the refinement of the RS4 IMHO.

agreed, however things have moved on (or backwards, however you look at it). I'm not too interested in the refinement yet,, it's all about the driving experience for me. I was 12 when the Lotus Carlton was released and it's just one of many cars that I have to drive to satisfy a childhood dream. Unfortunately Number Plate snobbery is a reality these days and I couldnt be bothered with having to justify owning a 20 year old car every 5 minutes.

IMHO "driving experience" doesn't just mean how fast it goes, but what it feels like while it's doing it (i.e. refinement) - I don't see that you can separate the two.

Well here's my thoughts:

I collected my Phantom Black saloon on saturday morning and then spent the next 6 hrs driving it home :D

I already know that this car is the most special car i have owned to date :D
It has plenty of power and i have no reason to believe that it is much different to the 414 bhp claimed given it's warp drive acceleration. It is definately faster than my Cayman S was and it was no slouch at all and it is faster than the STi PPP I had and it was seriously quick :D
I had one encounter with an Evo VI after passing him in traffic he seemed to want to prove to his girlfriend that he could really go faster than a RS4 so after he tailgated me for a while he floored it and went out to pass. I was not going to react but given the road was clear for miles I decided to see what the RS4 had on offer from cruising speed, dropped a few gears and floored it, the Evo instantly started falling back even though he had momentum on his side
The comfort of the car is incredible, 500 miles and no back ache or soar legs, just stopped occasionally to stretch the legs and have a look at the car and obviously wanted to start the engine a few times

No real world car can shame the RS4 it's simply to fast, luxurious, practical and good looking  :D  :D
All that and over 25mpg over a 500 mile run, bloody brilliant 8)

M drivers are always unhappy when a better car is out there, mainly because most are badge snobs and buy BMW's for that reason only! M cars are brilliant cars, not reason to think otherwise but for now the king lives.... long live the king......RS4 8) 8)

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
