I think you'll find all those questions have been answered recently in response to other peoples questions...

Have a read of the recent threads here.

Richard, the key things are that the car must have the "tech pack" (sat nav, adaptive lights, CD autochanger) and the flat-bottomed wheel. The GPS cradle is unsightly so best to do without unless it's an absolute must. Seats divide opinion - some prefer the Recaros, some the buckets. Privacy glass is a nice option to have.

Check the relevant updates have been done - 24H8 is one that comes to mind. Also, get some sort of idea as to the condition of the DRC system, and make sure it has FSH. Brake fluid change should have been undertaken by now or should be due soon (if you believe it's a two year and not three year schedule).

Also, take a look at http://www.darrenbaker.com/RS4.pdf - this dates from 2006 so there may be slight differences between 06/56/07/57 model years.

the RS4 is well specced, main std kit that many pass off as extras:

metallic
19" wheels
bose
park sensors front/back
heated front seats
leather - either elec recaros or RS4 buckets
rs4 flat bottom s/w
bi-xenons
cruise
front armrest is NCO

only must-have is satnav (early cars packaged this in the tech pack, later cars look for satnav + adaptive lights+ cd changer separately)

only other option that is IMHO must-have for more press-on drivers is sports suspension plus

main other options:

sunroof
TV module
auto wipers / lights / mirror dimmers
bluetooth (better to retrofit than spec from new)
ceramic brakes (kerching)

Some RS4's had the RS4 steering wheel deleted because they spec'd the wrong Bluetooth kit - worth watching out for. An RS4 without the RS4 wheel is worth less.

18" wheels were an NCO in the UK as well.

If you still play CDs(!), then make sure a car with sat nav has the 6 CD changer in the glove box so you can play a CD and have sat nav at the same time.

If it has the iPod adapter be aware that it's the usual rubbish Audi one - no track name, no album names wqhich makes the iPod appear as a virtual 6CD changer. Better to use the SD cards since you get track and album info displayed.

Not sure about the TV module - it's analogue TV only (so going to be useless in a few years) and the reception isn't good when moving - but it blanks the picture when you move anyway.

Second that, but I don't understand the UK obsession with large wheels and low profile tytres... we have probably the worst roads in Europe but we buy cars with the worst tyre/wheel combinations to handle those conditions?
