Yellowing Carbon Fibre?

Post by NGS521 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 1:51 pm

I noticed yesterday that all of the Carbon fibre housings in the engine bay are starting to turn yellow/brown a bit like plastic let in the sun too long. Is / has anyone else having this problem and doea anyone know if it could be a warranty issue?

Cheers

Check audiworld.com. At least one guy there has had his replaced under warranty. Will check mine later.

Mine's not yellowing, but it's got a noticeable green tint instead of being black like it was when new.

I like that colour though, makes it look like real CF as opposed to the fake wrap on stuff you can get!

Yellowing resin? your engine bay must be getting mighty hot

Yep - 19,200 miles old and both parts are yellow. Had the DRC shocks changed the other day and forgot to ask if it was a warranty issue. Have a feeling it will be deemed 'wear and tear'.

Yep this will happen with carbon parts which are placed in areas where there is heat, especially the engine bay.

Surprisingly enough though, the B5 engine covers do not suffer from this, yet I would have thought the B5 twin turbo engine would develop more heat in the engine bay.

Yellowing depends on the resin type and heat resistance used. Poor mistake to make.
