Just renewed my warranty on the RS4

Post by sonny » Fri Feb 27, 2009 4:04 pm

Just renewed my warranty with Audi on my March 2006 RS4.

Come in at 1220 GBP, I opted for the 12 month limited mileage option (15k), I decided to go extend for piece of mind.

Its also due its first MOT next month too, so I don't want to be caught out, I'm expecting some work as I can hear a knocking sound when on full lock (when driving down multi-story car parks for instance).

Just thought I would share this with you.

Not sure on this but i think knocking sound is the 4WD drivetrain rubbing on full lock. Happens in my other 4WD car also.

Any idea what it costs when limiting the mileage to say 5k miles.

RS4 that is under 3 years and under 60k miles have 2 options
1) AX4, 12 months unlimited mileage £1566
2) AXC4, 12 months or 15k miles, whichever occurs first £1220

Add £20 pounds if your car is over 3 years and under 100k miles, then the list goes on for other ages and mileage quotes

I dont think they do a Warranty for 5k miles, this would come under the 12k mile limited number 2 package

Second that ... my previous 2 S4s have done it and my RS4 does it.

That is too much for a one year warranty IMO, I got a quote through the Daily Mail warranty scheme using Warranty Direct www.warrantydirect.co.uk the other day and they quoted £690 which covered

* Warranty cover Mechanical and electrical breakdown
* Recovery
* Car Hire
* Overnight Hotel Accommodation
* Emergency Travel
* Technical help line
* Discounts off your future MOT and service

I have heard of http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/ and if the car was older I prob would have gone with them, but seeing as this is the first time I extended my warranty with such car I wanted piece of mind! TBH I know there prob is not much difference in them, but like I said just for piece of mind, if the car was like 4-5 years or older I prob would go for them as a cheaper alternative.

Also the warrant just roll over as it is, it did not need to be inspected as most warranty companies want prior to taking the warranty out!

I personally would go with Audi or just bank £100 a month...?

I have a similiar dillema. My front suspension knocks but Audi can't find the issue. The warranty expires in 4 weeks, she is booked back into Audi but what do I do if they still cannot find the issue?

Well if you can afford it then go for it.....that's my opinion, as I said just for piece of mind (it also includes Audi Roadside recovory), I have a slight knocking too and with my MOT due next month, I wanted my warranty to roll straight over, as i did not want a independent mechanic/tech to look over my car, just incase they found a fault....I would say that if the fault was identified by Audi and your warranty has expired come the time when the fault has not been rectified, I would say that you would still be covered for that fault, however I would get that in writing from your said dealership!

I think that the audi warranty is a fair price. What you have to ask your self is would you like to take on that amount of risk for that price. It does not take much to go wrong to recover your outlay. When mine is due I will take audi.

I would rather have an Audi warranty, so it can all be handled in house. Did the warranty direct include repairs at franchised dealers?

I've seen bad reports of Warranty Direct refusing very valid claims - I think the extra price of the Audi warranty id worth it for the peace of mind.

Ditto, and the £1220 ain't bad, seeing as we have above a 3000cc ltr engine and on limited 15k mileage, im happy in my 17 months of ownership I have only put on 6k on the clock! (and has still manage to cost me an arm and a leg haha), the joys of RS ownership!

Cant wait for the MOT in May, I'M going to book mine in to Camberley Audi, you can think twice that i'm going to put mine into my local Audi dealerships at Bexley and Bromley...bunch of HillBillies!
