Just dumped my GTR for an RS4
Just dumped my GTR for an RS4
Hi all,
After owning a silver GTR for three montsh I decided to sell it for a RS4. Why? While the GTR was the fastest car I've had (E60 M5, 997 GT3, 996 GT2), I was getting really worried over the latest tranny problems circulating over the net. Latest of which is the solenoid issue failing even without launching the car. With no dealer support the action was obvious. Anyway, I've always wanted an RS4 and have been using it for the past week. Getting a Gruppe M intake and Magnaflow exhaust as I thought the car was too quiet and wanted to hear more of that glorious intake growl - something I missed from my M5. I love this car. Speed is decent, build quality excellent and handling could benefit perhaps from KWV3's or Ohlin SL's. It's so practical! I couldn't use my GT3, GT2, GTR as a daily driver simply because it was too much of a hassle. The Porsche's were too low and I couldn't bring it to the down ramps of most malls here. While the M5 was nice it's SMG was horrendous.
BTW, what do you guys think of the new S4 and the likelihood of the new RS4 having the same powerplant? Personally I think it'll be good news for the B7 model as I think the V8 is a great engine (still offered on the R8 right?). It's got a character of its own with the growl. While the V6 supercharged engine can be easily hopped up I feel 420bhp on a sports sedan is just right. With intake,chip/exhaust this can be bumped up to 450bhp and I feel this is just apt for a sedan with comfort. Anything more then just get a used 997 TT!
Anyway, good to be part of this forum.

Reassuring to hear this, i was seriously contemplating a GTR but refuse to sell my RS for peanuts.
I still maintain there isn't a better alrounder at present (imho)

Re: Just dumped my GTR for an RS4
Having owned 2 B6 S4's (because they had a V8) I'm not even remotely interested in a B8 S4 - a V6 sound just doesn't do anything for me, and I reckon the supercharger whine is too quiet to make up for that loss.ducatiman wrote:BTW, what do you guys think of the new S4 and the likelihood of the new RS4 having the same powerplant?
There's so much speculation about what engine a B8/B9 RS4 might have I wouldn't bet any money (not even a penny) on it using a high output version of the supercharged V6.
RE: Re: Just dumped my GTR for an RS4
By rights it should have the same engine as the S4 i.e. 3.0 V6, but probably twin-turbo and tuned to 430bhp+ to beat the M3.There's so much speculation about what engine a B8/B9 RS4 might have I wouldn't bet any money (not even a penny) on it using a high output version of the supercharged V6.

Is that 430+ on paper or in reality?

ducatiman,
You may find some alchemists will claim a chip and exhaust can get you 450 in this car...
The best way to get some more power that has been validated even remotely rigorously is to check this thread: http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=74616
Kudos belongs to the resident Italian and American board members who have so far done the donkey-work.
I believe MRC have some of their magic in the pipe-line....

On some other Audi forums a twin-turbo V8 is being talked about generating 450-480bhp.Nige_RS4 wrote:By rights it should have the same engine as the S4 i.e. 3.0 V6, but probably twin-turbo and tuned to 430bhp+ to beat the M3.
It's all speculation at the moment, and since the next RS4 won't go on sale until very late 2010 or more likely 2011 is likely to remain specualation for some time to come.
Re: RE: Just dumped my GTR for an RS4
The big issue about the GTR is how Nissan deals with the tranny issues. so far they've been uncooperative and refuse to include it in the warranty claiming it was voided due to launch control being used. Tranny is a $20k job by Nissan (replacement). But the thing is now the solenoids in the tranny are frying even without launches so a lot of owners are really getting pissed off. An estimated 14 cars have already been affected.pippyrips wrote:Reassuring to hear this, i was seriously contemplating a GTR but refuse to sell my RS for peanuts.

Bottomline, now is not the time to buy a GTR. Buy one after a good resolution is passed.
As for me, I love my RS4 and it's N/A V8!
My sides are still splitting.. check out this video about the GTR tranny probs it is sooo funny I nearly died laughing...
