It only tries to open the garage for 5 seconds then it assumes the garage is open and switches off.

That's OK then. Some other "garage door openers" I've looked at  are on until you turn them off.

Agree that most need manual switching off, but even with a 5 second delay they can easily get a second reading failure

My understanding might be slightly different to Dave's as well. I thought that any obvious reading failure was logged - even if they get a subsequent fix - and the second one of these leads to a visit...

Well if that is the case I'm going to cover my car in matt black foam. Oh yes I'll do it!
Got no idea how often these things would return an error in general use, it can't work 100% of the time nothing does. I'm talking about hand held equipment rather than the actual camera vans.
I would also say my garage door has been opened more than twice.

I've just re-read this http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/jamlaw.htm which appears to say that it's two separate occasions of a failure to get a speed reading - but since the laser guns have two attempts a few seconds apart then so long as you immediately slow down and disable the "garage door opener" the gun will get a speed reading at it's second attempt and you won't be logged as failing to provide a reading.

For "those f@@@@@g sly, sun in your eyes, on the other side of the road mobile camera vans, if only they spent as many manpower hours, watching the movements of rapists, child sex offenders, drug dealers, illegal immigrants, burglars, benefit cheats and car thieves." You cant beat LIDATEK.

It's awesome. It's saved me many times, once from a licence losing incident - I couldn't even see the cops they were that far ahead (about a mile), behind a bush, just off the duel carrigeway when BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Pootled past at 60, one of the coppers was laughing his head off, the one with the gun had a face like a smacked arse! Priceless.

Oh yeah it was 3am or something on a deserted road, morals morals morals....etc

I got the shop selling my garage door opener to fit it. Don't think they removed any panels, I think they pulled part of the dash out and shoved the wires through the bulkhead. The owner had an RS4 at the time and coincidentally also had a remote garage door opener so his guys had done it all before. It's apparently a doddle.

Thanks for that , :D , is your diffuser fitted behind the grill under the number plate ? I did read that the LIDATEK will turn certain types of outside lights on , if that is the case the police couldn,t do anything if thats what it is being used for , wot do you think ?
