Dashboard Damage

Post by Jimmer » Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:51 pm

Ok people, through total fault of my own, I have accidentally damaged the dashboard trim that fits above the instruments and stretches the width of the car.

It's scratched, which isnt terrible, but it pains me to see it so I want to sort it. With that in mind I guess the only solution would be a replacement part? I intend to call the local dealer in the morning, but wondered if anyone had an idea of what this would cost, and would it be something that I could fit myself, or would it be best carried out at the dealer?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Gutted for you - it would drive me mad as well!

I will try and find my copy of the RS4 workshop manual when I get back to work if no one else can in the meantime, but would imagine it could be a PITA to do, fiddly more than anything and would need 2 people. There is also no guarantee you won’t have an annoying rattle once all is back together which is some ways is worse!

I'm guessing the trim will cost a lot from a main stealer. If I were you I would look to the many cars that are being broken up after crashes etc.

It might be worth looking in the yellow pages for upholstery repairers - I wouldn't be surprised if it’s the cheaper option.

Anything is possible yourself, and the amount of hours/labour the dealer will charge you will be ridiculous

Totally possible one man, and usually the kind of job involved when doing a heater matrix replacement.

Can't comment on the price of the part though

yep, I would be trying a repair first. BIG job otherwise and huge room for error, rattles, Surely a repair is the cheaper initial option....?

Thanks for the replies.

I think that having looked at the cost of the part alone (circa £700 + VAT!!!) I will look at getting a repair done first, it's not mega bad, but is winding me up!

Pippyrips - I may need to take you up on the instructions to remove at a later date!

Yorkie - will give those guys a call and see what they can do - have you used them yourself.

Thanks again people.

Would a stitched leather covering be possible? Looks good on the new 911.
