i think that it's better to use the castrol edge 5w30, rs4 engine is a kind of big diesel... there is no cleaning action from the fuel injectors.
I ve already seen the valves carbon build-up on diesel engines but now i think we will start to see them also on petrol fsi ones.
edge 5w50 is the oem oil also for all the VAG group diesel engines... may be that audi know about this issue ...
about airflow: you are right , you need to multiply by 2 , each ecu manage 4 cylinders, so half airflow

So nonone has in fact yet done any proper testing of porting the manifold as yet????
My reasearch so far is Im waiting on info from 2 tuners here. To go as far as doing the heads is a major drama and from what my tech at Audi said is an engine out job. The Reason being the chains and everything for the cams being at the rear of the motor so wont be going that far. Ill be doing a before and after so will put up any results we find.

The "Pump Duse" injectors on VAG TDi engines are camshaft operated. Due to the pressures involved the oil has quite a hard time in this area, hence the unique oil spec. FSI seems to be a very similar system.AntoRS4 wrote:SilverRS4,

I still think you ought to port that new manifold of yours...
9.4 secs 0-100 is approaching GT3 territory isn't it...how can you say "No" to that additional performance, or rather, to returning the car to the spec it ought to have had when you bought it.

I'm sure the rest of the community would be indebted to you for any further obeservations you might make in the process...
I'd do it myself, but being in the aviation industry, I'm about to get stiffed so the money needs to be in the bank at the moment...

Your wish is granted. I began the work last evening. I am glad I have a new one to work on, as the thought of removing the one in the car, performing the work and then getting it back in the car in a relatively short amount of time was not realistic. I spent a little over an hour on one port and it shaped up quite nicely. I will need to spend more time on it with a finer grit tool to get a better finish. Once I get one port done, I will post a few pics. The "lip" blends in quite nicely and it looks like quite a bit of work is possible on the short side radius of the port leading away from the trumpet - which is good since that is the area of the port that the airflow tends to follow. I am optimistic that the results will be noticable. 0-100 in 9.4? I think I'll need the help of some European "petrol" for that;)

As promised, here is a pic.
Seems to be going well. One port is done, I hope you can tell which one it is! I am of course leaving the polished inlets the way they are and am just blending them into the port as far as I can. The reshaping is modest and hard to describe, but its working out pretty good. There is a significant bump on the short side radius and if I can figure out a way to get a picture of it I will.

Well judging by how your car compares in OEM config with AntoRS4's, its pretty much identical....in terms of acceleration stats and flow - obviously one depends on the other!
So I'd expect the "modified" car to generate the same improvement and a couple of posts up, he says his car is doing 9.4!
Curiously, how much work (hrs) do you reckon for all 8 inlets?

Got it done. Once I developed a routine (and identified the most effective tools, and figured out how to arrange a vacuum to quickly eliminate all the particles I was generating so I could SEE...) I could do one inlet in about 30 minutes. I think Anto also had the inlet flaps removed and may have done work on that end of the port. That would take considerable time. That end is pretty clean from the factory and I really didn't want to mess with the flaps or the shaft they mount to. Anyway, the next step is to get my car on a dyno for a baseline run and HP figures before I swap this one into the car. It is the holiday season, so it may not happen soon. When I get all the info together for the comparison, I'll probably start a new thread... Thanks for the nudge Anto! It's a fun project to be working on.
