Extended Warranty
Extended Warranty
The warranty runs out on my RS4 saloon 1 April 2009 and I am keen to explore options for extending the warranty with Audi. Obviously I will be speaking to my dealer in the near future but can anyone give me an indication of the likely cost and how long a manufacturer's warranty can be extended for?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Extended Warranty
I'm pretty sure you'll have a few replies to this as Audi (I think) have extended the warranty to 5 years or 75K miles?markweems wrote:The warranty runs out on my RS4 saloon 1 April 2009 and I am keen to explore options for extending the warranty with Audi. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
RE: Re: Extended Warranty
Extension is just for DRC suspension components I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Recently got a quote for our A3 and based on price quoted wouldn't bother. Cars with larger engines like RS4 are over £1,200 pa I believe.

You'd need to have something big go wrong to make it worthwhile IMHO.

RE: Re: Extended Warranty
£1,280 to be exact for one year. I have had a quote through.
It is a huge amount considering the DRC has been extended to 5 years and the paint is 10. Moreover, the warrenty would not cover, for example, exhaust, brakes (incluing discs and pads), tyres, windows, normal wear and tear (such as upholstry, light bulbs, window wipers), clutch and serviceable items. It would include engine and transmission and major electronics though.
But here is my problem. Unless there is catastrophic failure, most problems would not cost anywhere near £1,200 from an indipendant to repair. And if a problem was more than £1,200, it is likely to be a failure large enough to be classed as a write off (i.e. new engine, or new gearbox), and claimable against my insurance anyway.
Its a bit like extra insurance on your TV. Its a waste of money because you are covered for complete breakdown on houshold insurance if the item is to be replaced.
I have decided not to take it out as I am fully insured and have a gap insurance as well. But I am having the car fully serviced and checked by an independant and all warrenty items fixed prior to the end of the warrenty.
At the end of the day its a risk, but you pay your money, you take your choice, as they say.

RE: Re: Extended Warranty
the drc is only covered to 80k or 5 years.
my 80k was up in march 08.

Just got mine back from yet another DRC repair and the dealer was not aware of the 5 year warranty on the DRC system! Was quoted £1280 for a years extended warranty if under 15000 miles a year or £1550 if over 15000 miles a year. Engine failure would not be covered under my insurance policy. Having had an engine failure on a 911 at £12k I think I'll be signing up! Cheers Bry

G'day mate,
Up for that.
I might see if I can sneak in Monday then, and get the DRC system pressure-checked.
My guess is its just another evidence of "rip-off" Britain.
What have Audi CS got to say on the matter?
When is the APS trip?

Its all one big rip of from Audi, have just got my car back from APS today with a new clutch, master & slave cylinder,H&R anti roll bars all labour and materials £1300.00.Audi qouted me 2885.00 just for the clutch,no sway bars, master or slave cylinders,i think they seriously need to look at their pricing policies,my car will never go to them for anything.EVER.
