Brake pads - for goodness' sake
Project U actually sell them for the RS4, only in Race compoundbut find them suprisingly good from cold. No backing plates, but have backing plates from an RS6 Im going to try this arvo. The compound also squeels so probably not the preffered solution for most. Also handle track use very well although after 8 times I just had one fall to pieces.

OK,RS6 shims work a treat with these pads. The other thing to look out for is the inner slot needs to be filed out a bit to ensure proper fitament. The guys who fit these originally shoved them in so no movement. Highly recommend these. Got 12 months and around 8 track days out of them. Work good from cold and work well on the track. Rotor wear was respectable as well.
Exactly, they need to be able to move freely at all temps. The Project U ones I am guessing are probably designed off the RS6 backing plate thus why the filing. The horible colour they paint there parts doesnt help either.
Also the squeeling has started after a track day again on these pads. Not the noise from not having shims the noise from having hard pads. I wouldnt recommend these unless your doing alot of track work. Im thinking of changing to stocks again for the street. I dont do that much track stuff.

So, having established that aside the 400 quid PAgids:
1. DS2500s not supplied with shims so unusable
2. YellowStuff DP41513 are RS6 not RS4 pads.
3. YellowStuff RS4 pads not due to hit the streets for 6-8 months
I have succumbed to the YS (due to a racing mate's recommendation) RS6 pads and decided to do a pukka job:
1. machine out the slots (it's a very small amount)
2. passivate the steel to reduce likelihood of it rusting
3. enamel them to protect further where machined down.
Will put them in soonish and report back...!
