Basically Porsche are claiming that the Ring time set by the GTR (7,29IIRC) is not true
Oh yeah dont think I noticed your post.

Yes Porsche say they can not get anywhere near that. It still got a great time around the topgear track though but I guess that is massively different. I think topgear should give Sabine a GTR and a 997 Turbo to see which does the quicker lap. But rr them first to see that they have not been played with.

There are a few points that are falling by the wayside here:

a) If launch control is possibly bad for the car and should not be used (without detriment to ownership), why fit it?
b) All those skylines etc advertised at over-inflated prices are just that - advertised and over-inflated. If they weren't over-inflated - wouldn't they be sold and not advertised for sale?
c) Service bills will be lower than I think are being talked about. I had my RS4 serviced by Audi for £150...that kind of price was never quoted 3years ago. Make no mistake though, replacement carbon and other expensive parts will remain very expensive for a long time.
d) Insurance - how much? My RS4 is £420 this year, the RS6 is £410. Both cars are garaged and both are for me + my 29year old wife on the policy. I've just done a quote and on same criteria, the GT-R is going to cost £1342 + horrendous excess.
e) The RS4 is in a different league - not necessarily a higher or lower league. If you don't want a car that sits 4 and has a BIG boot and is cheapish to run - what is the point..? Why not get a proper fast car such as a Atom SC or similiar? That'll leave you £20k to go on holiday, pay off some debt and buy a family car for sensible running.
f) Give the car std off-the-shelf tyres and see how it performs...? After all, the other cars it is being benchmarked against are running std tyres 99% of the time.

Who is this car aimed at? The track driver? The family man? The boy racer? The middle management singleton?

Wouldn't the real track driver have something more akin to an Atom or an ADR?
Wouldn't a family man have something practical and possibly fast?
Boy racer???
Middle management possibly. More likely to be a BMW or Porsche or other status symbol...?

I just don't get it....perhaps its my age or my discerning taste for something a bit less grotesque.

Having said all that, it does make the Porsche (and other supercars) look stupid on outright pace but in any event and for what it is worth, you will not find one on my drive...The wife, family and neighbours would divorce me and everytime i see one, at the back of my mind will be 2 thoughts - great car and cock. Whilst one shouldn't drive a car due to others opinions, we all do - otherwise we'd all be running around in modded Pulsar GTi-R's.

By all accounts Porsche and Nissan had quite a spat about this at the Paris Motor Show - to the great amusement of many of the journalists there.

I can see Porsche taking Nissan up on their offer to teach them to drive The Ring.

I bet Walter Rohrl is right up for that.

I'm betting the boost was tweaked and the gearbox strengthened.

Agree with Rob and Norrs.

Perhaps all us Wiltshire Perthshire lot are re just awfully uppity about theses things. Actually, to be honest I was sorely tempted by the sheer hype of it all, especially having a friend in the import business who could have got me one for 40k but I did that with a 997 turbo, and quite honestly felt the c*ck you describe so well above. As an extravagant trackday tool, yes, but I just can't help thinking that cars like this are so out of place on 21st century roads in the UK. Having said that - where will you see more of them than anywhere clocking up speeds in excess of 18 mph? Central London.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6
