They only get away with offering these crazy prices because people keep giving their cars away inspite of them!

There are Saloons and Avants of various specs sitting on forecourts around Cardiff for >£43K.

Let a dealer make £10K off me?

Some might think that about right, but I'd rather hack off my left leg.
The Avant outside Bentley is my old car. Sold at £37500. I cannot believe that some are saying stick with the Audi against the AMV8 for the better driving dynamics of the Audi. I had an AMV8 2 years ago and found it superb, far more presence and appeal than the RS4, you can't even begin to compare.

Be careful not to be blinkered by opinions tainted towards an RS4 in an attempt to justify their own purchase/decision in their own minds.

Buy the AMV8.
Took 2 amv8s for a test drive and couldnt wait to get back to the rs4. I seriously would take the rs4 every time or take the amv8 and sell it and get an rs4. In my honest opinion (I dont own my rs4 anymore so no axe to grind) getting rid of a rs4 for an amv8 would be a step back. Shoddy interior, too much noise and slightly slower than the rs4, twitchy handling, awful driving position. Fantastic looking car though just really dissapointing when I drove them both. I hear the new one is better.

Absolutely agreed mate and it's only just below the milage on my B5!!!

It's only just run in though!

Agreed, fantastic looking car exterior, poor finish inside and the old model lack tractability especially in the wet, lacked power compared to the beautiful noise it made and felt twitchy. As said I gather then new AMV8 sorts out a lot of these problems and a show piece it has the RS4, however after a test drive with a friend who was considering buying one I was happy to be back in my RS.

It books at £40k with 20k miles in clean condition so I was hoping for more than that plus an over allowance.
Strikes me dealers are scared to take in any big lumps and can't shift the stock they are already sitting on. Even so £32k is taking the pi55.
Whilst the AM V8 looks gorgeous on the plus side having driven both cars back to back I think the RS4 is the better drivers car - feels quicker, drives easier and handling definitely better.
The bid you have received is about right. Not many cars are fetching anywhere near book value at the moment. As an example, my 07/57 Avant with 5000K miles was worth 39K to a couple of stealers and 35K to another, last August. I sold it for 41K privately. RS4's are depreciating at 1500 quid per month. Therefore, my old car is probably now worth approx 34-36K. Try Fontain to see what they will offer.

The cost to change should not be much different to where it would have been before the credit crunch kicked in. At the end of the day, AM values are suffering just as much if not more than the RS4.

Trade prices are horrendous on all cars at the moment. A few months ago I would of said that the rs4 would ride it out well but the same cars are on pee heads and the used car locator that were there 3 - 4 months ago. I just enquired about a really nice spec 8 month old 911 c2s and they offered me 18k for my 56 plate x5 3.0d sport.

My mate (a salesman), had a customer who wanted to p/x a SL600 (230 chassis) with a new CL63AMG.

Between June and August, it lost 3.5k every month!

I agree, surely a decent proportion of these people are panic selling because of the doom and gloom. Better to keep hold of them for a while, ride the storm, oil prices are forecast to be pretty stable in this economic doom and gloom so cost of motoring isn't going to reach £2 per litre anytime soon.

That said a colleague of mine has just secured himself an used Overfinch RRS for 40% of it RRP at only 24 months old, so the RS4 isn't actually doing too badly.

Every big engined car is dropping like a stone, even the halo stuff like the R8 will be in the 50s in under 6 months..

A friend of mine was offered 37.5, 28, and 22 recently, 07 avant with 6k...

Dealers are clearly takign the Piss btu as already stated they need to make sure they aint losign a fortune, sales new and used are takign a huge hit with the global credit crunch..

As for the black car on ebay, as stated 25k is pretty indicative of the current mkt sadly- i lost a fortune on my RS6 recently and have decided to just keep it, Rs4 woudl go nicely with it mind, and at 25k lads i am there :D

Even with the MFSW, Alu trim and orange indicators, I'd pay a few quid more!
