anyone else running 200 cell CAT ??

Post by murgelloMatt » Sun Sep 28, 2008 9:28 am

As title i am running 200 cell CAT, full resonated milltek and AMD map. The engine management light has now come on a total of 5 times and the code is saying that both CATs have failed. Have checked the CATs and they are fine so took it to AMD again and they are telling me it is the map. They have adjusted it twice but it still aint right. It also runs really bad on cold start up. I am waiting for the light to come on again!!
Has anyone else had any probs ????

Another thing i have heard that a couple of tuners have had to take the cat of and put OE back on as they could not solve the problem ( kim collins )

One way to solve it is to have something akin to a Lambda sensor chamber. Lambda sensors normally slot into a place near the cats, when I have my S4 fitted with 200 cell cats and a s/s exhaust the custom fitter I used built a separate chamber for them as part of the system so they did not take readings directly from the gas flow through the cats as he had also heard of similar issues but providing an emmissions control system environement that would still allow them to perform a function.

I can't see how it is the map unless they have altered the fueling and ignition sequencing that causes the problem, but then it would have cused a problem from the start and not now.

I will also say at this point I don't know the exact ins and outs of how these things work however that was what I was advised.

Cat diagnostics can be reprogrammed so the ECU allows 200 or 100 cell cats to work without any problems, but SOME tuners just don't know how to do it.

200 Cell Cats

Post by caldy » Mon Sep 29, 2008 7:55 am

Had my custom exhaust, including 200 cel cats, fitted by AAS Exhausts in Newcastle. Drove to Holland for re-map by JDE and no problems whatsoever some 1500 miles on. Both AAS and JDE are very good at what they do.
