Sad Day

Post by 4wheeldrift » Tue Aug 26, 2008 5:39 pm

After an agonising 'should I sell it or should I keep it' decision, I have reeluctantly sold my RS. The decision to sell was down to lack of use, coupled with the 1,400 quid a month depreciation hit. If I had the opportunity to use the car more often, I would have kept it but most of my business now comes from the emerging economies of Russia and the Middle East and I can see myself spending more and more time traveling.

Some of the stealer bids were as low as 35K, with many not able to bid due to over stock. Two dealers bid 39K, but I decided to hold out for a private sale. In the end I accepted 41K. After taking into consideration the discount off list I negotiated when I purchased the car, it has dropped by 9k in just under 12mths of ownership. IMHO, this not bad when I consider the depreciation new M3 owners are experiencing.

Out of all the cars I have owned (including various 996’s), the RS4 has been my favorite for many reasons and I would not hesitate to buy one again.

Thanks to everyone for their advice over the past year or so, I will still continue to visit the forum as and when I get chance.

Cheers,

what was the age, mileage & spec of the car? 41k seems good in the current market so guess it was an 07+?

My car was an 07/57 Avant with 5000 miles from new. See here http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/651407.htm

Point being, providing you are realistic, RS 4 prices appear to be holding better then the new M3, There are private punters out there who are willing to handover 41K for the right car. Therefore, owners who are wishing to sell don't have to cave in to low stealers bids just because the market is not as strong as it was.

sounds like a cracking car for someone. I've noticed the point about the m3's as well and if they keep falling at the rate they are, will be a lot of car for the money after the turn of the year.
wait for it......

It looks like the C63 will go the same way as the M3. There are plenty of un-registered cars in the dealer network.

Wow, a 15k loss in 5000 miles. I would hate to add up cost per mile with petrol etc.

For that sort of money i will be keeping hold of mine for the full 3 years planned.

Taking into consideration the 10% discount I negotiated off the new price, the depreciation was 9k. Although this is a lot of money, it is not bad when compared to the depreciation that BMW M series (Year old New Shape M3's are going through closed BMW AUC's for 33k), AMG and Porsche etc are suffering in the first year.

Given my car sits in the garage most of the time, I could not justify another 7K hit between now and the end of the year.
