Comparing a 911 to an RS4 is like comparing apples and oranges! One is a 4 door, 5 seater estate / saloon with enough boot space for a trip to Ikea and is a 2 + 2 with and thats being generous!

Its what you want from a car, I would love an R8 but i need an estate (plus I cant afford one!!!) I love changing gear, the car sounds so good when you knock it down a cog or 2 and the acceleration is smooth and quick. There will always be something faster / better / different out there, but its not all about that!

The main question I asked which no one has answered is if I'm thirty stone heavier with more passengers than the other car is this going to make that much difference to the performance even if I'm in the right gear!!! and everything is equal

yes it will make a noticable difference. If you were both one-up in a straight race don't think there would be a lot in it( driver making decent changes in the rs4 would make more of a difference) , but with the extra weight you had approx 200kg or 15% extra over normal you would struggle to keep up even in the right gear, imho. Think there was a bit in evo a while back testing cars loaded nd unloaded to show the difference in acceleration etc and you had to have big bhp and torque for it not to make that much of a difference. (think it was a cayenne turbo that didn't change that much)
wait for it......

That's so lardy even 5 heavy people on board wouldn't change the power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios much!

yea your right as a percentage it wouldn't have had as big a change on some others but it also has a lot of power/torque to get it moving in the first place!

Had my RS4 2 months and traded it yesterday for a Porsche as I found the Rs4 over rated too slow, boring and rattly. Keep defending the car but reality is its a disapointment on the B5.
Preach brother, preach!!!

RS4, overrated, overpriced and over... here?

Each to their own I suppose. Porsche, impractical, poor warranty, steep depreciation and flawed dynamics which means they have been trying to perfect it for 40 years. IMO of course.

Surely something negative could be said about evey car?

You are also missing the point of the RS4, hence why it has a high revving V8.
I find Porsche has a better depreciation as reflected in the lease prices. Warranty is OK. Poor dynamics??? So hanging an anvil of an engine in front of the front axle is better then over the rear?

Welcome back dude...we all missed you and your diatribes...

The GTR seems to do alright with the block where it is.....in fact isn't it faster than the Porsche?

As flawed wouldn't you say? My point was that Porsche is no better than the RS4, certainly not in the areas that were highlighted. Like said, unless a Turbo or GT variety which is invariably 2-3 times more than an RS4.

Totally agree mate... I think the RSPCA would have something to say if I tried to put my two dogs in the boot (or whatever it is called at the front) in a 911. Where as they are very happy sat in the boot of my Avant. I would like an RS4 and a 911 but hey so would many people but I just don't have that sort of cash so I chose what I have.

I could run an old estate and then have a 911 but then when I go for a long trip the 911 would be at home and what's the point in that?

Pay your money make your choice but please don't rubbish what others have chosen :-)

Oh isn't the GTR faster more practical and cheaper than a 911

Just kidding drive what you want so long as it puts a smile on your face. Isn't that why we all have these things else we'd all have those stupid electric things by now?

Flame on
