Your EPC is lit, which means the ECU has detected something wrong in the engine system. As such, your car is probably running in a form of limp mode to prevent you from damaging the car further through hard driving, e.g. taking the engine up to high revs.

As per your owners manual, you should take your car immediately to your dealer and not drive it hard until you do so. They will be able to diagnose the problem and try to fix it, assuming you haven't already caused more damage by driving the engine hard while the warning lights are on.

If you have VAG-COM then take a look at what fault codes the engine ECUs (there's two - address 1 and address 11) have logged.

Yup - but a complaint to Audi UK was made by me 'cos the man from the RAC was useless (as he didn't carry any diagnostic equipment) !!

exhaust manifold

Post by hungryhorses » Fri Aug 01, 2008 3:26 pm

having just bought my RS4 of independent dealer, the EPC light comes on soon after.
Rac(audi assist) run diagnostic says manifold valve was able to disable light safe to drive.... makes you wonder!
Audi Dealer says new intake manifold- to take 4-5 days!
Stress.... Agggghhhhhh!!!! dealer must have known this... any come back?
under warranty though cant wait to hit 8000rpm.

If you can get someone independent to say, in writing, that the car must have had this fault when the dealer sold it to you then you have a cast iron case.

Had same problem. Dealer cleaned the intake manifold runner flaps or something and I've not had the EPC come up on me for over a month. However, with enough concern expressed on my part, they're replacing the entire intake manifold system under warranty.

Car is going in tomorrow and will be in for 2 to 3 days, after which my warranty ends, and I'm on my own.
