mmm, having second thoughts!

Post by WnelsonRS4 » Thu Jul 17, 2008 2:20 pm

Afternoon All,

Just a little bit of reassurance when it comes to my B7!
I have had the same old issue with the DRC Values – long and the short of it is; my car was with the dealer for 5 months – having been sent back to me 5 times “fixedâ€

Have just sold mine as we had 2 cars that did sub 25 mpg and 400+ road tax. We have just replaced it with a 6 month old cooper s which is a great laugh to drive whilst returning 40+ mpg on a run. Not suggesting that a coopers is the answer and if we hadnt got a decent second car it certainly wouldnt be enough. All I can say is the RS4 is the best car I have owned and driven. I recently drove an AMV8 and couldnt wait to get back into the RS4, before I got the RS4 I drove a c2s and c4s and whilst they are fantastic cars the rarity and noise of th RS4 always made me smile. Personally if I still owned the rs4 i would be gunning for audi to try and resolve the drc issue and I also beleive that it may get solved or atleast an extension on the warranty may be acheivable. if that happens then i believe it will help residuals no end. If Audi do nothing then alot of people will be bailing out come 3 years or going aftermarket, either way values will suffer as there will be alot on the market and people will have problems with suspension mods as will insurance companies.
The only thing I would replace it with is an RS5 if it happens or a TTRS. I really hope Audi keep the RS numbers down on future models.

Sorry to hear your woes, touching wood as I write this is the best car I have ever owned. If the suspension problems continue and I alos get them after warranty expiration then I woud go aftermarket. I would also seriously consider just p/xing... for another RS4.

For me there is nothign out there with the all round potential of the RS4, so much so that as said previoulsy, mine ins now in for the long haul. 2 years old this summer and staying for at least another 5-6 years, it is well beyone my driving ability and I don't touch its dynamic talents often, glorious noise, plenty of punch and not many cars that will out perform it that I would want to own.

Stick with it, however as said if that particular car is getting you down, break your dealers arm into sourcing another one at a very good deal and p/x. (Assuming of course they sold it to you in the first place)

You do seem to have been very unlucky, all I can say is that most owners (even those having DRC problems) are having nothing like the same degree of problems. Let's hope once they get them fixed you'll have a reliable RS4 to enjoy.

Agree about the M3 not being an option - especially as they are too stupid to sell a Touring version.

I too have had a bad time of late. My car has been to the stealers 7 times in the last 8 weeks for noises & shocks & drc pumps & more knocking and so on. This time they told me it was where they had removed the large plate at the back of the engine bay to install the exhaust ???? And not used new stretch bolts ???? Then it was a bolt on the gear box, dont know what it was in the end but it seems alright tonight.
When i went to pic the car up on tuesday the valet people had given it a good grit bath and scratched the roof, bonnet and back pillar. so it stayed there to get mopped over at the body shop.
At least i had an RS4 to use, but it did feel alot quicker than mine ?????

I'd sell it, is a car really worth this much stress?

I had loads of grief with an S4 and eventually sent it back for a refund, ended up renting something not very interesting for 4 months and then bought another S4, much better car second time around.

There is no excuse for unreliable 50k cars.

Mine was off road for 4 months with DRC. I nearly sold it for a 335d M Sport Coupé.

But having had Audi UK do a fantastic job of fixing it PROPERLY, am back with it.

And OMG, am i glad i still have it. It's a monster.

DAre i say it, this all seems to hinge unacceptably heavily oh dealer (lack of) quality.

That's why I bought another S4, still begs the question why Audi put DRC on the car in the first place, DRC must make the car feel homesick or something.

After all you have said i think you should ask to keep the one you are driving currently and let them sell your 'runt of the litter'

yes I think I would swap it in for another RS4. It seems like a 3.30 on a Friday afternoon one.

Saying that I had a V10 Touareg and that was always going wrong! You think the DRC is a problem? Wait till your air suspension keeps going flat randomly and it takes over 3 months to find the fault! Then the gear box needed replacing, then a turbo went out of warranty! £6.5k + vat!! Lucky there had been a recall on them and it was done free! I sold the car a month later!!!

Dealer was ace all the time but you do doubt the car. So stand up to Audi, get them to buy your car back and get them to source another RS to your spec.

I think I have found out one potential reason why as mine has just been in for its 2nd AVS where the tech had cleared the both ECU's 'learned values' It flies again, albeit my excellent fuel economy figures have taken a pasting for it.
