Likewise, i had one for close on a year, although it got fettled by DMS, however in a drag the M5 would walk away from an RS4 & over 100 it would start to run away.

Also running VMAX i could get an extra 10MPH through the timing beams in my M5 over the RS4. All that aside, i too greatly prefer my RS4 as day to day in this country i feel it't the better all round package.

Not sure who mentioned curb weight, but the M5 is about 250KG heavier than the RS4 but with an extra 100BHP stock.

Although Ben is seen as the font of all knowledge for all things Nordschleife, i too believe he's wrong about the suspension being heavily modified. The brakes are & the springs are not stock but as a regular visitor i've been out a few times in the Ring Taxi & have been told it's very close to a stock car with only minimal modifications.

That said, the drivers are far from stock & it showed me i could only at best get to 50% of their ability in my E60 M5, even after 4 days Scuderia training

I too had an M5 for a while...great car, but I found the speed came up to late really, it was more of a GT car, you just didnt feel the speed until it was doing over a ton. The RS4 feels a lot faster through the gears, and a lot more manageable on the country lanes I drive on generally. I must say though on a good trip to say Scotland or soemthing the M5 was a great car, great cruiser and blinding speed on fast wider roads.
Still Im chopping the RS in now for a C63, so im hoping that will be like a cross between an M5 & Rs4...we shall see

The M5 is definitley quicker than the RS4 - that is unfortunately a fact - especially above 100mph - doesn't make it a better car though. I looked and drove both before deciding on the RS, they are about the same price 2nd hand, for me the size, looks and 4wd swung it for me as well as the Audi being, IMO, a younger person's car.

Also the M5 isn't anywhere near 100k new, even loaded.

My mistake on the pricing translation. I'm US. A fully loaded, including gas guzzler tax on an M5 put it right at 96K USD. I rounded up.

And thats if the dealership did not charge a premium on top of the MSRP.

For a while, the waiting list was so long for the M5 they were able to charge 10-20K over sticker.

I know the M5 has several attributes which are superior, I'm not doubting that fact in the least. I just think the RS4, for the money, is one of the best luxury/performance values on the market. So I tend to thrash at people who fault our cars. Thats my bad. But especially after owning one... Unless someone had a serious lemon--I'm mystified as to why anyone would dislike the RS.

I guess some people don't find Angelina Jolie attractive either...

I don't think your going to like that C63AMG Chris5150. As is shown in Top Gear, the car is an animal. Its fast, its fun, and its very very scary--but not in a good way. Its like being a little kid and knowing the monster is actually under your bed. Do you peek or lay there quietly hoping nothing bad happens? Driving that car hard is like looking under the bed.

I Loved it but I was also glad to get out of the drivers seat.

The IS-F might be another good in-between choice--but the tranmission is beyond annoying. I actually really liked the interior, although it usually gets slammed for having too many gadgets.

For me, the RS4 is the car I love to Love. The M3 is a car I hate to love--like an ex-girlfriend that cheated but was really really good in bed.

Just on way to work this afternoon side by at the lights in the wet with a r32 and a M5 playing and to be honest my stock b5 s4 with remap was having a real good go at both. In the dry guessing the m5 would walk it. R32 must have been gutted being left behind.

Evo mag rated RS4 Avant better than M5 Touring when tested in France around 1 year ago due to better ride/handling.
Considering that's more relevant than pointless drag racing I'd go with that verdict.

Come on guys.....

When you come onto a particular marque's forum and give them some stick you must expect some form of retort. Having said that we all realise that there are quicker and slower cars out there for 99.99999% of all cars on the road.

We know the faults of the RS's (and the M5's). Pay your money, take your pick.....!

As an Ex biker to me no car will ever have that raw straight line speed, however I truly believe alot comes down to driver ability. I've had races in the past with faster cars and won because I maybe knew the roads better, got my foot down quicker or just had more balls to push harder! the same applies with the RS4 and M5, I don't think there is much between them on a dry day below 100mph but as I'm sure some of you will have experienced, sometime some :knob: in a Astra VRX will leave you for dead because he has no care about road safety or there own safety, and will make stupid manoeuvres just to get ahead of you. I don’t think the M5 left you for dead I just don’t think you were ready for him to give it the boot so it took you by surprise.

There will always be faster cars out there and faster drivers, as long as you enjoy your car and it puts I smile on your face I think that's what really matters
Current car..... hmmmmm????
