Gone over to the dark side: Selling my RS4

Post by Mr.Sushi » Thu May 22, 2008 12:48 pm

Hi guys, I have finally decided to take the plunge and have decided to buy the C63. I was wondering what everyone's general opinions are on the resale value to be expected at the moement from RS4's.

My car is Phantom Black, Saloon, 3,950 miles at the moment with all the options (tech package w/adaptive headlights, bluetooth set up + tv, sunroof, recaro seats..."

I was quite disappointed with the part/ex rate that Mercedes Benz gave me... Does anyone think I am wrong to speculate that I should expect atleast between 43-45k?

Would be interested in hearing people's opinions.

Regards,

Mr.Sushi

I'm no expert, but I'd have thought that £43k was reasonable - even for a slower colour

And about the colour- phatom black- slow?? :?:
Not sure about that... and regardless, even if it was a slower colour, the car certainly isn't 8)

Well again not being an expert it would depend more on the whole deal i.e what you can negotiate against the C63 and if its new, free servicing, tank of fuel tax!! extras, mats etc etc. 43k for that car and spec on a PX I would imagine is at least what you should be looking it It was worth 50k back in Sept of any ones money on the forecourt. Just out of interest why ???

going by autotrader prices 43-45k is a selling price so maybe 41-43k against a new car thats, i guess, relatively in demand just now?

MEV- why what? the switch to the c63?

Mercedes Benz won't offer me more then 39k and frankly I dont think I/anyone else in my position could/would accept that. Im waiting for some offers from private friends i know who may be interested + will advertise around a little bit as well.

Dealers at the very least have around 4k in a car. I guess (it is a guess) that privatley the 43-45 is correct and at a dealers between 44-47. I would therefor say 40-43 is about right and you have very low mileage so 43 I would say is on the money.

I had a situation a couple of months ago which meant I might of needed to sell it so looked into my options and that was what they offered me. Welcome to call them. Newbury Audi. I hope I'm right but I hope that my car will still be worth early 40's in another 12 months time.

I have to say that I have never understood people who buy a new car keep it for a few thousand miles and then sell it before its even run in, taking a huge hit in depreciation and then go and do the same thing 6 months later.

You could probably buy a 100K and change it every 5 years for the same hit you take choping and changing on a 50K car

I always try to buy the best car I can brand new and then keep it for 5 or 6 years. I kept my elise for nearly 7 years and only sold it when my wife got pregnant. I did make a mistake with the car that followed it, a 330 ci convertible which I bought when I should of got the M3 so ended keeping it for about 18 months. I changed that for the RS4 and that was 2 years ago with no plans to change for a long time.

Anyway, each to their own I guess

Indeed, each to their own. Everyone makes different choices at different points in their lives.. My wife isn't as comfortable with the RS4 as I am and she rarely drives it, whereas she likes the C63 a lot more.

I've already paid the deposit on the merc and after seeing it im looking forward to it 8) all in all its too late to go back and change anything. Agree with you on the depreciation factor... which is a bit sh*t.

cheers

I'm with you also Charles, but sometimes people need to change their cars this early due to different circumstances e.g. would you have kept your Elise if your wife hadn't of fallen pregnant?

Plus, I have some friends with the same intentions as us but test drive the cars as throughly as they can, only to find that a year down the line in ownership, the car isn't as good as they thought it would be.
