dyno is needed to tune afrs properly and also useful to ensure you don't exceed maximum best timing which can happen on a normally aspirated engine...
Tuner should tune on the dyno first then fine tune on the road...
The ultimite mapping thread
If you got 343 then 421 then something obviously was not quite right, was it being measured with Vag-Com?55JWB wrote:I have plots from my car, both on the same road, both by the same operator but on different days... one showing 343bhp one showing 421bhp...many of the plots I have seen are set up in slightly different ways, as can be seen from the small numbers around the bottom of the plots, differerent gears, different "shoot out modes" until you got a number of differently mapped cars, all running the same fuel, for the last three fill ups, and then all on the same day at the same location with the same ambient and intake temps to see what they produce, it will be difficult to compare... Not very easy... but possible....
The two runs i had done were on the same day, under the same conditions,in the same mode and were taken one after the other in the same gear.
They are not the 'best' runs as this would not paint a true picture of what had been achieved, and what the engine will achieve consistently.
They are a reflection of the true HP gain that was achieved with the remap.
well done for posting that t urbo.
of course dyno comparisons can be hard to do but a good operator will apply all of the correction figures to give a pretty good sae corrected figure taking into accound dyno cell ambiant temps barometric pressures etc etc the software is avail to do this on most dyno systems, its just up to the operator to do the work.
at last we can see the effects on hp/torque and AF for any given map, and although not perfect its the best tool to use when deciding whether the map offered by a tuner is worth the money we are paying.
i agree with the comment that a 323-421 result on the graphs smells of fish obviously some issue with the software/hardware as the figures shouldnt be so far out.
most dyno software will provide a correction for transmission losses by measuring the forces at closed throttle. if it makes us all feel better working with the higher figures then so be it as long as we apply the same parameters each time a fairly accurate comparison can be achived. the 343-421hp problem could be exactly that one calculated with the losses applied and one corrected for flywheel output.

I am pretty sure that in my case the first was run in the wrong "shoot out mode" hence the wrong calculations being used... I will see if I can get both scanned and uploaded...
