RS4 - Contract Servicing

Post by rs4v8 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 7:20 pm

Wondering if anyone has experience of the audi fixed price servicing? My car's not due for a service for a while yet but the tyres are starting to get a wee bit used looking. :D

The contract I have includes tyres but don't know if this means waiting till service time.

Cheers.

i have mine on contract from Lombard vehicle leasing with full service/tyre cover TBH worth every penny. just had a puncture and quick fit mobile came to my house and after bribing the guy with coffee and choc digestives he agreed to change all 4 tyres before they were really shot. now had i been paying i would have run them to the wear indicators for sure.

Yeah, I was very surprised with how little it cost me from Audi too. Admittedly I don't do many miles, around 6k a year but this contract only stings to the tune of £17.99 p/m. By my reckoning, based on what my old car used to cost for each service at BM, oil, parts, labour etc This is pretty good value and does include the tyres. The thing is though, I'm not sure how often I could roll up and ask for new boots in between services. There's no way the tyres on my car now are going to stretch to the first service.....

£17.99p/m i.e. £215.88 per year!!!! Do I understand you correctly??? You can't get a service for that which no matter how little miles you do, you have to have the car serviced once a year.

I'm on the Audi service and tyre deal. From memory it is something like £80.86 per month. i.e. £970.3 per year. Based on 12K miles per year. But that's not written anywhere in the contract. They told me at the time I could change my tyres as often as required within reason, i.e. no track day wear on regular basis.

From the parts/service dept they had seen tyres requiring replacement at anywhere between 7,000miles to 13,000miles and that was acceptable. The deal did not include replacing a tyre for a puncture.

I figured a decent of tyres would cost me at least £170 tyre fitted etc and a service at least £300 excluding anything wipers, brake pads, disks etc. This deal is for 3 years fixed price.

So while not fantastic I would have any surprise service deals in the next 3years. Which is one of the reasons I swapped out my old B5 when I started getting £3K+ bills!

That's what I'm paying, based on 6k miles p/y and the long service intervals. When the boy tried to sell me it with the car I nearly said no before he even showed me the figures. Still can't figure it out to be honest.

Even more surprising, when he dialled up the details on his PC he made a wee mistake and selected the S4 which turned out to be around a quid more per month, figure that one out!

Cheers for the info about the tyres though. I wonder if they'll allow the 275/30/19's under this arangement? :D

Most of the miles i do are on the motorway so my tyres should see me to 18,000 miles (18 months) with a track day and my 1st service is due around 19,000 miles, so on this basis the maintenance plan works out expensive.

Yep, agreed it will depend on your miles and your driving style. I will be surprised to hear if you manage to go to 18k from a set all the same esp if a track day is involved. :D

For me though, even at 18k service intervals and particularly if I can change the tyres for free before then, I'm gonna be a happy chappy.

I've had the car nearly a year (5k miles so far) and the tyres will maybe (!) see the start of the summer. So by my reckoning one service (in three years at my annual rate of mileage) and one set of tyres - maybe not much change from , say £1500 quid? if I was paying myself. The service indicator is showing 560 odd days left and don't really expect it to go three years without a service however (further increasing the value of the plan).

Maint plan @ £17.99p/m x 12 x 3 = nearly £650. Looks pretty good value to me.

I did note however that the monthly cost got a fair bit higher if the expected mileage was even a little bit higher.

I'll be interested to hear if you make over a year before the car tells you it needs servicing. My last S4 and B5 RS 4 never made a year and certainly not more than 12K miles before the car said it needed servicing. I've yet to hear of anyone making the theoretical 18/20K miles before the car says it needs servicing.

Of course there are many factors which dictate when the car calculates it needs to be serviced. Short infrequent trips on A-road driving with lots of rev range intervals are I guess the worst and would result in a quicker service interval. Whereas burning up hundreds of motorway miles at a near constant medium rpm could give you the theoretical 18K/20K service interval.

That said you have got a stonker of a deal.

I wouldn't worry about making the tyres do a year. At 8k miles on my 8month old RS my tyres are starting to track on white lines etc and I've noticed a marked decrease in their wet grip. The continentals (fitted) have amazing wet grip when new. Just looked at them and the fronts are about 0.5mm from the wear indicator which explains the reduced perfromance. Winter is not a good time to be running heavily worn tyres!

I can't see it either. Its life is not a particularly easy one! :D

Mostly A roads and round town. There's not a proper motorway within a hundred miles of where I live!! High RPM? yes that happens :D

Worn pirellis don't like winter too much either!

I got 9,000 miles out of the OE fit set of PZero Rossos, and now have PS2s which are still looking good after 10,000 miles.

I didn't get the service warning until over 17,000 miles - and I DON'T drive like a granny! I do a weekly commute in town (5 miles each way) and regular longer motorway type runs at the weekend plus a 2000 mile summer drive round France.
