the paint coming off the buttons is either due to wear or chemicals left on your skin such as the alchohol in aftershave/perfume or hand creams etc....
TT's had this issue a lot on the door handles etc.....need i say more...?

I checked with the dealer today - you can't switch the S mode on at start-up. Pity.
If the 'S' has rubbed off, then you will need a complete new steering wheel !!! I asked if it was a warranty claim - they said "No"
Hope that helps

There must be a way of hardwiring the loom. Anyone fancy hacking their steering wheel loom?

It can be set to come on at start up but has to be done via a ecu reflash of remap.

I just go through this sequence:
key in and ignition on
press S button
press engine start button
seat belt on
Enjoy!!!

Nice one, how much did that set you back or was it on warranty?
