Good and fair review IMO, this sums up my views on the two closely matched competitors:
The M3's problem lies with the fact that the abilities that make it truly special are all hidden in the final 10% of its performance envelope. Which means that enjoying them is pretty much impossible within the legal - or indeed sensible - limits of the public road. An Audi RS4, by comparison, is fun and hugely enjoyable at any speed. And while in that final 10% the Audi would probably lose out to the M3 you get to enjoy the RS4's talents more of the time. To really get the most out of life with an M3 you're going to need regular access to a racetrack, German autobahns or a very good lawyer.
Pretty happy with this too:
For my money the C63 was the fastest and had the best ride while the RS4 was the most fun and the best all round package. And the M3? Without doubt it was the most complex character and the hardest to pin down. I remain in awe of the engine and trying to get to the bottom of the car was fascinating and frustrating in equal measure. But of the three it wouldn't be my choice. Here's looking forward to the CSL.
Dodgy maths somewhere there:
