RS4 spark plugs?

Post by Dejan » Thu Nov 15, 2007 8:29 am

Hi,

I want to change oem sparks for some Bosch racing ones.
We use this Bosch sparks in out 1.8T and 2.2T tuned engines.

Did anyone from you ever used non oem sparks?

Those Bosch are 1 range colder then oem ones, so I hope they will work better.

I looked around and find out that Porsche GT3 and BMW M3/M5 uses Bosch sparks and all are 1 range colder that oem sparks in RS4.

I very much doubt they will make any difference unless your car has been mapped to produce more power.

Whatever you do, avoid (like the plague) Iridium plugs, they caused no end of problems on both my old B5 S4 and my jetski.

On the S4 they simply fell apart, broke up and passed through the engine (without damage). On the jetski, the same happened but I caught it before they passed through the engine.

Good grief! Were they made by Denso by any chance?

I have used iridium plugs on a moderately tuned Evo engine for years without problems. They were made by NGK.

I doubt race plug upgrades would be useful on the RS4. I'd stick to what audi tested with this engine.

Denso are sh!t to put it blutnetly!

NGK are the way forward whether Iridium or non.

I also agree with Alex; stick with what is recommended by Audi unless seriously modified, i.e Supercharged

I put in my racing sparks and I must say that the car works 100% better than with NKG sparks.

Dejan, what actual improvements have you noticed. What was the condition of the plugs you replaced. What you've noticed may be nothing to do with the new plugs but purely due to replacing poorly functional ones.
