I have the deepest respect for those who know far more about Audi's than I do, but I also notice a difference in throttle response with the S button depressed. After 5 years of owning cars with adjustable throttle maps I think I'd know the difference, and given that my exhaust valves are now permanently open there's definitely something still happening in response to the S button.

Note: I have also de-selected the automatic seat tightening function, so according to some, the S button should feel like it's non-functional now.

Agree totally - in Sport mode, it's more responsive to small changes in throttle position

IMO the throttle restrictions are partly due to the high crank rotation speed of the V8. I wouldn't want to change this to tell the truth for fear of damaging the engine.

S button also adjusts the fly by wire throttle so in effect it shortens the 'throw' in the pedal hence it feels more responsive... some cars are more reponsive than others, the E46 SMG car with sport on was almost undrivable in 1st, right pedal just becomes a switch, its on or off!

OK I just joined the Open Valves Club as well - much throatier sound from the exhaust now. :)

I was just taking a look at the Audi training video for the RS4, and this thread came to mind.

According to the vid the Sport button opens the exhaust valves (at higher rpm), tightens the seat cushions (if set up this way) and adjusts the fuel/air mixture to optimise performance at lower revs.

So according to Audi, the Sport button does more than just open the valves and therefore if like me you now drive with the valves open permanently, it is still worth selection Sport mode via the steering wheel button.

It also uses a secondary table on the ECU to change throttle response agression. In normal mode IIRC it is set at 1 or 2 and in 'Sport' mode it is about 4 or 5 on a scale of 1-9 which is all about DBW sensitivity and linked to fuel mixture.

This is one of the things most remappers will change as part of a remap on any other cars and was done on my S4 by ReVO when I had that done. Smaller pedal movements gave more instantaneous engine response.

Just bringing this back from the dead and showing a slightly different way of doing it if anyones interested. Instead of fitting a screw on both parts and cable tieing the pipes up, the pipe can be removed from the elbow that joins the green pipe to the black tubing and a grub screw fitted in the elbow. Allegedly ;) an M3X10mm grub screw (ebay 50 for £3 or something like that) would give a perfect fit and you could refit the pipes so that no-one would know its been tampered with :)

Has anyone tried this option? Thinking to join the group as it seams that there are no major issues on warranties. We have 100,000 KM and 3 years in Switzerland so I do not want to risk anything.
Thanks

What I did to block the pipe , was to get a stainless ball bearing just a little larger than the inside diameter of the pipe, disconnect the pipe from the car pop the bb in and put it back on. Looks like a small bump in the pipe, job done. :bigwave:

Have not done this mod yet??

Have there been any other ways to do so since 2008?? lol

What about just clamping the black hose tight and leaving it on??
