There was a slight difference in sound but nothing to wet myself over. I had the 80 ECU upgrade today when carrying out the car's first inspection service and thought the car seemed to be smoother and rev more freely but after this I carried out the valve mod and couldn't tell any real difference.

SORRY!
Jez, When I had the "80 done" it just made starting and pulling away from stone cold better, no change in performance as such.

Ozrs4 wrote:Hi Jezzer. I don't think you can expect a boost in any performance. Personally, I like it for the noise (and I don't have to press S button everytime on start up unless I also want improbved throttle response) and I do feel there is less hesitation with the engine below 4000rpm. Like you said, nothing to wet yourself over. I'm not sure if the ECU ver 80 has much to do with it as well but I do hear people are not happy with the performance of the car after the upgrade...it's as if it's detuned! Mine is still on ver 50 and I'm told I don't have to do any upgrade(or ecu recall they called it) coz there aren't any when I went in a month ago (?!@@! I'm puzzled coz my car was hooked up for them to check if the ECU needed an upgrade, may be coz I'm in Aust). just my 2c. cheers.
Hi Oz, I believe it has now been shown (by Jeroen) that there is no change in throttle map with the S-button. The button's only function is to open the exhaust flaps giving a 10 Nm hike in torque in the mid-range(IIRC) whilst peak power (and peak torque) are the same. With the mod done, pressing the S button only lights up "S" on the dashboard and inflates the side bolsters if you've enabled that...nothing more!

Alex, Thanks.
I read the thread "My Milltek" again and it makes more sense now. In a way, it's a little disappointing to know all the S button does is really open the exhaust flap and thereby give us that extra 10Nm and nothing to do with the actual throttle mapping! ....oh well, now I know I only need to press it if I do track days or want to tackle winding roads. Hope this clarifies the function of the S button for everyone once and for all as well. Was I the only one confused??

As do i - the s button definately improves throttle response.

Wasn't there an earlier post where somebody said they had plugged it into their VAG COM and could see a difference between the settings? I can't seem to find it!

agree, also done the mod, basically you get s mode noise in normal mode. but seeing as i always drove the car in s mode, hasn't been a big difference to me.

Yes but even when you had your car in sport mode the flaps were closed a lot of the time, now they are open all the time so they're will be a difference

Hi John,
I think this is what Pippyrips referred to (written by Jeroen in the My Milltek thread):
Non Sport mode:
exhaust flaps stay shut until 5,000k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear.
exhaust flaps stay shut until 4,500k rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

Sport mode:
exhaust flaps open at idling 760rpm
exhaust flaps shut from 1,000k rpm until 3,700k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
exhaust flaps open ALL the time from 0-8250rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

So throttle is the same in both modes !
