Thanks for the graphs, very impressive. What I conclude from what has been posted is:

Non Sport mode:
exhaust flaps stay shut until 4,500k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and then open
throttle stays 50-60% open till 5,500 rpm or so in ALL gears

Sport mode:
exhaust flaps open ALL the time from 0-8250rpm
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

Could you correct if any of the above is wrong please? I find it all makes perfect sense as in my car, in non-sport mode, the "kick" at 5,500rpm is MUCH more noticeable than in sport mode.

It is actually quite diasappointing to see that there isn't much difference between the 2 modes real world throttle opening. I wonder why audi have employed this 50-60% throttle opening below 5,500 rpm?? Is it for fuel economy?
Hi Alex,

You're welcome. A few corrections.

Non Sport mode:
exhaust flaps stay shut until 5,000k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear.
exhaust flaps stay shut until 4,500k rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

Sport mode:
exhaust flaps open at idling 760rpm
exhaust flaps shut from 1,000k rpm until 3,700k rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
exhaust flaps open ALL the time from 0-8250rpm in 4th, 5th, 6st gear.
throttle 50-60 % open till 5,500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd
throttle 100% open 0-8,250 rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th

So throttle is the same in both modes !

I mapped it 100% throttle 0-8350 rpm all gears,
exhaust flaps open allways and all gears in Sport mode.
Normal mode like standard map.

The kick is more noticeable because of the 10Nm minus before 5000rpm and the extra exhaust noise after 5000rpm ….

Yes, but that's what we all feel, no big difference. And to handle 420bhp (with awd) or 507bhp (with rwd) under all weather conditions is a little different.
So the need for a reduced-mode in a M5 is more usefull than in our solid as a rock RS4's imho :D

I think audi have employed this all for (built up area) noise-law reasons… but there are tuners

Jeroen

Jeroen, many many thanks, that's an excellent post & answers many questions as i'd always thought the difference in sound between Sport & non sport altered in the rev range so at some points Sport is alot louder & at other points it's not & you've clearly explained why.

Totally agree as regards the M5, however i never drove in P400 mode, as i saw no value in doing so as MPG was exactly the same (tested time & time again). That said, i also only ever drove with traction in reduced mode or totally off on a track as the car was just too powerful to risk such actions on public roads for me.

Just been fiddling with my flaps [ oo err ].As Jeroen says, in sport mode, the flaps are open at idle, then shut at around 1k - 1.1k rpm.I remember the Porsche sports exhaust having a similar set up, whereby, they shut at a certain revs, and re-opened later. It was something to do with noise laws at around 30 - 50 mph?.I wonder if Paul, could have a chat with DMS on next contact, to ask, if they can map this feature out, and also if they can get 100% throttle accross the rev range?.Just very interesting, and i think would make a considerable difference to the way the car drives.Regards, SIMON. :)
