best of luck today.

Feck the running in, just be gentle until the "max 7K RPM" leaves the display & then cane it.
Enjoy as i know you will.

Definately agree!! You will then get the engine running it's max power quicker (FACT)W8PMC wrote:Feck the running in, just be gentle until the "max 7K RPM" leaves the display & then cane it.

had mine since saturday and can confirm you are in for a treat, took it out in the wet last night first time and was amazed how much grip it has and how effortlessly it puts the power down, as an all rounder in all weathers at this price level it has no equal, and that engine.... you wont forget the 1st time you go for 8,250...
enjoy

Agree with the above comments entirely. Runs much better when driven hard (once warmed up) and is much more fun too
Everyone is unique, just like you and me.
RE: Re: RE: Re: Only 8 hours to go
Just a question, does that include full throttle?
The book says drive upto 7000 but avoid full throttle....

I think the book says constant full throttle i.e. always bouncing it off the limiter. A quick nudge of 8000 RPM once fully warmed up will do no harm.mip wrote:Just a question, does that include full throttle?

All new RS4's do about 50miles before they leave Quattro GmbH as they are tested fully & i was told that all Audi engines are pretty much pre-run in & designed not to need a long run-in procedure (unlike the E60 M5 which runs special oil for the 1st 1900 miles & the revs are electronically limited until the car hits over 2000 miles
The only thing to stick to is the warm up, so wait until the "max 7000RPM" vanishes from the display & you'll be fine.
Saying that, i've by accident bounced off the 7K RPM limiter about 3 times when i assumed the car was warmed up but the display had not yet switched to oil temp

Haven't done this yet but I can see how one can feel the car has been running long enough to be warm, yet isn't.
Is there an actual 7,000 rpm limiter prior to the oil temp being optimal? I seem to remember reading the manual a while back which (IIRC) said that the 7k rpm sign is only to warn the driver rather than a physical restraint. Someone else mentioned it too...can't remember who.
Don't really have the balls to try it out. Would be good if it is a proper 7k rpm cut off as that would prevent excessive wear I guess.

It's certainly their & bang on 7K RPM. I've never done this on purpose, just as above when i thought the engine was warmed up but i was perhaps a few minutes early & bounced off the 7K limiter.alex_123_fra wrote:Hi Paul,W8PMC wrote:I think the book says constant full throttle i.e. always bouncing it off the limiter. Truth be known & it's fairly funny, when i had the re-map re-done at the Group Buy day, i warmed the car up a little & then went for a balls out test drive, only to bounce of the 7K limiter so was all set to moan as i'd been advised the limiter was actually lifted to 8400 as part of the re-map. Only to realise it was the lower limiter i bounced off briefly

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Only 8 hours to go
Well I am now a fully fledged member of the community
I was really surprised at how good it was on petrol on the way back as well. Coming from a 370/370 JDM Impreza I am used to poor fuel economy though the RS4 is definitely better (at least on M-ways).
The build comfort and ride quality is also very good and the 3 hours went in what seemed like 5 minutes.
The car is fully loaded minus phone prep. so this is the next thing to do. Am I better off fitting a Parrott or getting Audi to add on the Bluetooth phone install?
Best bits so far are the bucket seats and simply starting the car up in S mode - the sound is to die for
All i need to do know now is find time to read the rather large manuals to learn how to use everything!
