There's only one person in this thread (of 46 replies / 848 views) who thinks ceramics are necessary and justifiable for road use, yet you still think they are a good ideaJanspeed wrote: Well fair enough your opinion is "valid" even though there are fellow members who have expressed their personal experiences (real ones) and I think that they were more than sufficient, again thank you for non-constructive blurt.
I wasn't commenting on your driving, just the valid points Adam raised about the discs
2007 Daytona RS4 Avant
and when I said "your" in my post I did not mean you personally Janspeed, just anyone experiencing regular and repeated emergency braking on the road (which I had hoped was obvious as you had not been describing this as "your" experience)
apologies if you read this as otherwise
PS take a chill pill why dontcha

You need to relax. Take the cat out and kick it, you'll feel better.Janspeed wrote:Well it is to good hear your opinion, well at least until you go on about my driving anyway!Adam wrote:agreed however I am not convinced ceramic outperforms steels on the first 2 or 3 times this happens, ceramics have better fade resistance but if you are emergency braking continually for this reason them IMHO its your driving thats the problem, ie lack of anticipation / leaving sufficient space/time.Janspeed wrote: On any motorway there is always some muppet who overtakes in a blind/suicidal way, and if you have ever driven in Southern Europe you will know that you NEED good braking power!
If they were offered for no or minimal cost I would spec them but the benefits for normal / road use are a) no brake dust and b) reduced unsprung weight and the ride/handling benefits that come with it, rather than material performance improvements.
IMHO
As you obviously seem to have a lot of skill, this must stem from some great amount of experience in using ceramic brakes?

Relax dudes
I just know the day-to-day situations from my former 2x E46 330 BMWs with steel brakes and the C.B. on the RS4. I never ever had any feeling in the AUDI, that brake performance is decreasing, even from Top Speed breaks above 160mph below 90mph in short because of ... ... *why do I have a mirror in my car when others can break* ... ... puppets ... ...
Doesn't everytime depend on yr driving experience, sometimes you are just too fast with that car. Thought it is built for that reason, to drive fast, isn't it?
My steel brakes had some bad issues, especially in wet & snowy conditions. Total lost of braking power for about 1,5secs!
C.B. doesnt have them at all and the last tyre change at 25TKM showed the discs are very well conditioned and the pads seemed really above 70%! And, hell yeah, the hotter they get, the better they work.

That amounts to 8 gallons of fuel then, which is sweet FA.mixja wrote:Actually the weight savings are a total of 20kg of unsprung weight according to the Audi German website - that's from the front of the car too...
I have them as an option for my order - apparently will be the only one with ceramics in little old New Zealand...
Yes but it is unsprung weight and relatively speaking is a significant reduction in unsprung weight, hence should noticeably improve handling, especially on the track.audijohn wrote:That amounts to 8 gallons of fuel then, which is sweet FA.mixja wrote:Actually the weight savings are a total of 20kg of unsprung weight according to the Audi German website - that's from the front of the car too...
