Only 371BHP!
Only 371BHP!
Hi All
I have today had my 2006 B7 RS4 rolling road tested at Powerstation in Tewkesbury, and it produced, what I consider, to be a very poor 371BHP at the flywheel and 195 at the wheels, which is considerbaly lower than the claimed figures from Audi.
Can anyone else comment on what figures theirs have produced so that I can draw a comparisson, as I am a little down hearted at the moment!
Thanks.

Re: Only 371BHP!
I'm not sure I can see how they arrived at 371 bhp at the fly from 195 bhp at the wheels?!!? 371bhp at the fly equates roughly to around 260-270bhp at the wheels. There is usually a 22-25% transmission loss on 4WD carsJimmer wrote:Hi All

This topic produces a large amount of controversy with the widely held view that the coast-down method (used by most RRs) to measure power being very unreliable on RS4s. The torque split on the RS4 confuses things further. You're not the first to have dynoed your RS4 and have obtained what seem to be poor results.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it as most owners who can compare their RS4s with similarly powered cars they've previously owned, can vouch for the 400+bhp output based on their "right-foot dyno". In my case compared to my 400-bhp Evo VIII and M400.
The only way to rest this matter once and for all, would be for someone to have their engine out...engine-dynoed and then put on a reliable/high quality 4WD dyno (e.g. dyno dynamics) and compare the results back to back. Until this happens, we'll have no clue as to the RS4's true drivetrain losses, which seem to be different to other 4WD setups.

RE: Re: Only 371BHP!
sounds like you have been fed duff info. Of all the cars I have heard of which have been tested, the calculated figure is 412-415 bhp. My own was 412 standard, so unless you have a major failure and you would be aware of it by the loss of power, treat what you have been told as garbage.

I agree with Alex. That info is total Boll*cks, the car I have has covered 750 miles and goes like stink, 3rd gear today produced 100 MPH on a short stretch of road, absolutely annialated everthing on the road.alex_123_fra wrote:I'm not sure I can see how they arrived at 371 bhp at the fly from 195 bhp at the wheels?!!? 371bhp at the fly equates roughly to around 260-270bhp at the wheels. RE: Re: Only 371BHP!
Jimmer, it seems a high percentage of RS4's that are being chassis dyno'd are falling well short of expectations so dont worry too much.
The big problem with chassis dyno's is that there is NO accurate way of converting wheel HP to Flywheel HP.
Check this article out and you will feel better. www.pumaracing.co.uk/POWER3.htm
Really you only want to have your car dyno'd before and after having mods carried out just so you can see what improvements may have been made.
If you have modifications carried out without the dyno prior to them you will never know what TRUE improvements are made.

Remember the peak bhp on this car is at 7800 rpm and torque at 5500. You can only get the best out of it between 5500 and 8250 rpm.RussianM3_dude wrote:Dunno, my father tried my car yesterday and remarked without being prompted that it did not feel like a 400hp car and that my old M3 seemed more powerful. FYI my father has driven and owned some fast cars. Hmm, maybe some RS4s are "duffers". I put 100octane fuel too.
I find it hard work to drive to be honest but then im biased towards my old tt which had max torque at 2800 rpm.

simple1, did you have the engine out of the car to get that figure???, How did they work out your flywheel horse power????
My RS4 showed 220kw at the wheels. around 295HP. Going with 30% (seems a bit high) drive train loss that gives me around 420HP.
Not sure what you dyno graph is showing and how it would figure it out?? Then again I know nothing of dynos except anything can vary it even tying a car down too much, heat and so on???

I have had my car on the rr before and after a re map, mine before the map was 365ish and after was at 400, this was the figure at the fly wheel!
I have told Audi about the my car been down on power after comparing it to another RS4 they are going to look into it for me!
I spoke with somebody who sent theres back because "it felt down" on power and audi replaced bank 1 injectors, secondary air pump and fuel filter, after that the car ran and felt like it should do!

RE: Re: Only 371BHP!
You could always use the MAF airflow readings (or could you)?
If so, that would give you a good indication of wether you were int he ball park or not.
