I think it's more down to weight distribution and space. Where are you going to put the spare anyway?
Cheers,

In the boot. I have the same solution as you at the moment, so although not ideal, it is an improvement

Saving money! I think we're all being a little cynical. If you notice this is about the first Audi with near perfect balance. They moved the battery to get it right as a result. So what does a spare weigh? more than a battery surely and enough to stuff the balance so I for one am going for that as the reason.
Think about it they put spares in S4's so there would be no consistency in the cost saving with that noted.

There is no way you can get any sort of spare in the RS4 as the boot floor panel has been reshaped to allow the exhaust rear silencers to fit. This has been redesigned to allow for a bigger diameter system with equal length right and left.

You have to put the spare in a tyre bag and carry it in the main part of the boot.

For the first time I saw a narrow fit (145) 19" steel wheel used on an RS6 for studded tyres in Norway, not sure what the exact dims were but I thought it would in effect be a space-saver that cleared the discs.

There has been a similar thread on other forms for various cars. My Mk4 R32 has an 18" VW/Audi space saver which I bought but I guess the RS4 has a different stud pattern? I'd prefer an 18" or 19" space saver if there is one.

Anyone also know where to get a tyre bag from on-line?
