sprint blue beast just arrived

Post by caddyman » Sat Jan 20, 2007 10:56 am

:D
Hi everyone, I am new to this Forum, I just wanted to say how utterly pleased and shocked by the RS4's power and handling, it is buy far the best car I have ever been in let alone drive, mind you I did step up from a A4 s-line with 190 BHP so you can imagine it did take me a little bit by supprise. The only down side is that I ordered it 9 months ago, well worth the wait for such a bargin though.

cheers steve

Just make sure you run it in with the elastic band technique, keep an eye on the oil and don't start and immediately stop it, or you will do the plugs it.

Apart from that enjoy :)

Andyuk

Could you explain (or give a link) what the elastic band running-in technique is? is that the one suggested by motoman.
Cheers Nic

no link ... but discussed with Scott, see the oil thread ...

Once fully warm ...

No WOT(Wide open throtle) but 3/4 throtle in 2nd then overrun down to say 2,000rpm ... same in 3rd.

Idea is too make the engine work both ways off load , on load ... then the rings will seal better in the bores ... which will equal more power.

Will be run in by about 8,000 miles ..... this was determined by oil samples ...

also change oil at 1500 - 2000 miles as the engine has silicon bores and it beats the crap out of the oil.

Thanks Andy

According to motoman, you should change the oil after the first 20 kms as this is when most of the crud that is going to accululate has accumulated. Do you agree?

sorry andy, i'm not sure if that's a question or what!
i'll post you the link below where motoman explains it better than i could about the oil change after 20kms.
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

but basically, if you run it in his way, you go for it straight away in 2nd, 3rd and fourth gears and after the first 20kms or so,and enough <beep> will have accumulated in the oil, that it's a good idea to change it straight away before it does any damage

let me know what you think.

I read that and i have started with the elastic band running in .. the other problem is that most RS4 when brand new have about 15 miles on them ...I can't recall what mine had.

I am about to change my oil
