iPod Interface

Post by j964 » Thu Dec 07, 2006 8:52 pm

It seems to me that the iPod interface has a few problems - am I right, or is there a way around these?

1. In normal (non 'mix') mode, it will only play the first 99 tracks of any playlist.
2. In mix mode, the mix is always the same (not random) and is again restricted to just 99 tracks.
3. When turned on, it always defaults to 'CD 6', ie the entire iPod contents (of which, as stated it will only access 99 tracks).
4. Turn it off with 'mix' set and when turned back on, mix is off again.

Been checking this out -

In fact, it WILL play more than 99 tracks in any playlist, but track '100' shows as '01' again.
Also, also it always SEEMS to default to playlist No. 6 (entire iPod contents), in fact it carries on playing the track and playlist selected before it was turned off.

It is a bit crap, you have to remove the iPOD and flick through it manually to really find the songs you want and then plug the thing back in. Far from ideal!

What do you expect from a device emulating a CD changer?

The only alternative is the Dension gateway 300 & 400 that allows you to enable the Ipod UI with CD6 selection. Audi locked this down on their Ipod intreface so you don't crash you Uber monster.

That sounds like the same product as the VW iPod Adapter.
I had it in my GTI and it did those same things... the adapter is terrible and overpriced. Find something aftermarket by Dietz or something and you will have better luck. Some of them even let you keep your CD Changer hooked up via a switch!
