More Mileage, more performance
More Mileage, more performance
Wondered if anyone could say if their RS4 has started to perform better as the mileage on their car goes up. Not sure how true it is but have heard that as certain mileages are past the computer releases more power. Anyone past 5000 miles and noticed any difference?

RE: More Mileage, more performance
Interesting topic, wish we could get some facts, only rumours so far

RE: More Mileage, more performance
Daz, might be able to comment .. I am only on 600 miles

RE: More Mileage, more performance
I'm just past the 5K mark
I would definately say that it sounds better with more miles on the clock.
Performance / economy wise it's hard to say.

RE: More Mileage, more performance
30,000 miles, and yes, there are a couple of differences - well pecieved anyway...
There is now a very distinct 'second wind' at 6,000 rpm - this was not noticable early on, but is becomming more pronounced, and makes the car even more of a thrill to drive,
I have also noticed a slightly better fuel consumption - it now sometimes comes higher than 20mpg on some journeys. This is most likely due to bedding in of components.
I know find that the car has really loosened up and is far nicer to drive than early on.
Hope that helps

I'm just short of 7,000 miles and agree that performance definitely improves past 5,000 miles. Economy? - no noticeable change after 1,000 miles (before that I was driving it gently and with restricted rev range so mpg was high).
With the S4 I had before performance noticeably improved again at both 10,000 and 20,000 miles.

Perhaps start a FATS run or similar as with the B5's? If someone could log their car on the same stretch of road every few thousand miles you should see differences if indeed they start to perform better.

Wow quite a few miles. I suppose that you must be close to the 3rd set of tyres by now. Have you tried any other tyre combinations other than the Pirelli's? If so what's your opinion of the originals versus the replacements on grip, feel, wear, noise, etc.jonp wrote:30,000 miles, and yes, there are a couple of differences - well pecieved anyway...

I have only really gone past 4K rpm a couple times, however at 5k rpm rather than 6k rpm it really pulls hard.jonp wrote: There is now a very distinct 'second wind' at 6,000 rpm - this was not noticable early on, but is becomming more pronounced, and makes the car even more of a thrill to drive,

Agree, mine is on 600 miles and in bodyshop but I'm in a 7k mile RS 4 Cab and there's definitely a different feel to the engine. It's as you say a second win at about 5.5k onwards.jonp wrote:30,000 miles, and yes, there are a couple of differences - well pecieved anyway...

An ADT told me 30k for the engine to be 'fully free' ...

Just passed 6000 miles. Definite kick in the pants after 5800-6000 rpm. The engine noise is wonderful - still makes me laugh out loud.
Fuel - 22.6mpg on a recent Scotland run; ok, mostly motorway driving and not spanking it, but not any worse than my old S4.
Oil consumption - nil since 3000 miles.
Seats - adjusted properly now; supportive and comfy. Even Mrs Peebo is happy!
Just gets better and better.
PS thanks to all for the advice on the TMC.

FATS run on RS4 with 10K miles
My first two sets of FATS runs are posted over on AudiWorld.ZeroK66 wrote:Perhaps start a FATS run or similar as with the B5's? If someone could log their car on the same stretch of road every few thousand miles you should see differences if indeed they start to perform better.

The car has 10K miles on it. If someone were to do the same on a cars with say 2.5K, 5K, and 7.5K miles on them, we'd have some good points of comparison.
I've done comprehensive oil analysis on my engine since delivery, which shows that full engine break-in (as evidenced by asymptotic reduction in Silicon and Aluminium partical numbers in the oil) probably occurs somewhere between 7.5K and 15K miles, with 90% of break-in wear completing by 8K miles.

Mine is going better now at 2k miles, noticable low/mid range difference in grunt.
Exhaust is now also louder, pops lots more on the over run, even without Sport button pressed.
Suspension has also become more compliant, it was pretty harsh to start off with, but now is much more comfortable and I'm glad I got one with SS+.
Cheers all,
Ben
