Fuel

Post by definatelymaybe » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:46 am

Guys, I'm just on the verge of collecting my RS4 Avant and it suddenlt dawned on me - does the new RS4 have to run on 97RON?

My dad's 2ltr FSI does, so was wondering if the 4.2FSI was the same?

Does anyone feed theirs Optimax?
Or is Tesco's own just as sufficient?

Cheers

RTFM ?

You'll need Super unleaded - that's probably the best rule of thumb. Nearly everywhere sells it in one form or another, but the two mentioned above are favourites.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

RTFM = Read the f***ing manual !!!!!

98 RON is the recommended fuel, but it'll run on std 95 if you can't get it, with an associated loss of performance of course.

For me, shell V-Power is my fuel of choice.

The manual says "Super Plus unleaded 98 RON or premium unleaded not less than 95 RON (with slight loss of power)".

So it's NOT essential to use 98 RON fuel, and using 95 RON fuel will NOT cause any damage - contrary to what some people posted on here a few months ago.

When I can get it I use Tesco 99, second choice is Esso 98, third choice is Shell V-Power (Optimax as was), and when they aren't available (quite often on my commute) I use 95.

In my experience the power loss between 98 and 95 is not as noticeable in the RS4 as it was in my previous S4
