This is the reply that I receieved:
I think the message is: if you have not contacted Tom Peterkin yet, the do so to get your name on his spreadsheet.Hi Glyn,
I am indeed the main point of contact for TMC.
Firstly please accept my apologies for the non functioning TMC on your RS4.
We are actively pursuing a retro fit option with the assistance of my marketing and factory colleagues, which we hope to have available by the end of 2006.
I am keeping a spreadsheet of those customers who have contacted me and they will be the first to benefit from this retro fit option.
Regards
Tom Peterkin

TMC only works "officially" in new A6/A8/Q7 with the MMI system.simple1 wrote:Interestingly enough, was in a 2004 allroad today and it had a big frig off line through the TMC square too
To make it work in the older CD based sat nav systems you have to buy the CD from TeleAtlas - which isn't "officially" supported by Audi UK.
And, as well all know only too well, it doesn't work in an RNS-E at all - except (it is said) unless it's a Lamborghini version of an RNS-E!

I spoke to Audi a couple of days ago, and there is a plan in action to get this resolved. New cars post week 50 (IIRC) will be fitted with the required bits from the factory. Retrofitting will occur at about the same time. It seems there may be a "small" cost to get the "update", so I would suggest that you look into if the TMC functionality was stated in the documentation as being included.

OK - but the TMC subscription shouldn't cost THAT much. I think TomTom is charging £60 a year and it is free on one of the new Garmins. I would understand if Audi wanted us to fork out a nominal amount for an annual TMC sub and the cost of a new DVD (say £50) . But I would be extremely irate if it was around £400 for a new DVD and/or dealer serviced firmware upgrade at £150 an hour.
