Imprint in the seats..

Post by kam100 » Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:04 pm

Hi Guys..

Am now up to 2600 miles approx in my RS4.. loving it.. after having my bluetooth sorted, absolutely no problems, loving it every minute! have sorted out my fuel consumption issue by swapping the other cars for diesels, and now the RS4 is only for my joyrides out of work..

However, i have a slight problem.
I am 5"11, and 11.5 stone. Hardly a massive bloke, however despite my seats being very comfortable for me on short/long journeys, its just troubling me as the drivers seat has an imprint of my ass in it!

This is not a joke, but is a serious post, its quite embarrasing really, if i take pictures you will beable to clearly see what i mean, so will do so tonight/tommorow at some point, but my question is, should i even bother taking this to Audi and getting it sorted. I don't think the seats should be that weak to have the shape of my ass in it after such a short period of ownership and little use. Has anyone else noticed this in their car??

I have the standard bucket seats trimmed in black valcona leather by the way. Pictures to follow.

Thats does seem bad. If I'm ever lucky enough to be in the market for a B7 RS4 I think the recaro's will be a must on my shoping list. The buckets just seem to be too much hassle.

Hey Kam,

I have the same problem, the car has only done 800 Miles. I'm 5' 10" and 11 stone so similar to you. I too have an imprint of my ass in the seat. It seems like the leather has stretched to form the imprint IMHO

I should be able to take a photo tonight,

Ps. can you imagine the conversation with the Audi RS team.........

Yeah mate.. thats what im thinking.. how to ring up the girls at Audi Bham and say.. really sorry not happy with my seats.. my ass is sinking into them! without cracking up and keeping my voice in the telling off/not happy tone that usually goes with the phonecall to car service departments..

Good luck, but what on earth would they do about it? It's not something that can be "fixed" and I'd eat my recaros if they changed them over....
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Have to say that was one of the reasons why I went for High tech cloth centres..... my first B5 did excactly the same thing with full leather and I was told that I had to expect the leather to stretch, eventually the seat frame collapsed and the seat had to be replaced. At the time I was 12 stone, now slightly better fed and not seen any signs of problems with new seats......

bugger.. haven't made the phonecall yet.. luckily.
No thats the thing.. i don't know what they can do about it, and don't know where my complaint would lead, hopefully will lead to them realising the seats aren't very good, and giving us a better design later or something, but it doesn't help my arse shaped seats now does it! oh well..

Thanks guys, anyone else got any weird problems with their seats.. hopefully simple1 my frame will collapse too and i will need new seats.. did you aid the collapse by jumping up and down in it at all? hehe

Na.... just started to creek then groan everytime I stood on the brakes, eventually it collapsed to one side and while trying to hold myself up, broke the centre armrest........again......
They should be able to restretch the cover but that wont help if the base pad has an arse shape in it........

haha.. thats one way of looking at it!!
took some snaps tonight on my phone, can see the two oval imprints quite well to be fair from all angles, trouble is i don't have the phone software on this laptop doh! so can't upload and show you all.. will take some snaps with my digi cam tommorow!

Simple1 i always think im going to break the armrest, always lean on it ti lift myself in, so far so good.. its a bitch having an armrest, when you get in other cars you fall in expecting there to be an armrest! do it in our saab all the time.. as that has this piddly sliding jobby and always slides back whenever you put any pressure on it with your elbow..

Here a thought some guys actuly tightened there leather with a hair drier just lightly dampen the leather with water then dry with the hair drier. it was on here a few years back havent tried it myself but worth a go but as Simple has said the imprit will still be there underneath the leather, there are seat specilists out there who could put in firmer padding into the seat but thats not what you want to hear on a new car, I would get in touch with Audi and explane the problem try a get a figure of all the pepole on this site with the same sort of problem and see what they come back with. I would love to hear the phone call :D Good luck and i hope you get this resolved

I noticed on my old B5 how quickly the kiddy seats in the back mark the leather. Several little pressure point dents that don't seem to go. I'll try the damping down and warming with a hair drier.

May I suggest a "guess the arse" comp?
